Girls' Trip to Texas?
Suggestions for 40 somethings to meet in Texas for a few days? We like spa, good food and wine, pretty scenery. Would prefer rooms with 2 beds for $300 or less per night. Probably go in April or May. Suggestions? Thanks, annieladd

I have no idea where you are coming from or where you want to go but my wife and I love The Mansion on Turtle
Creek in Dallas. I don't know if they have a $300/night room but I'm sure some are close. They also own Crescent Court Hotel in Dallas. Both are as good as you will ever find. http://www.rosewoodhotels.com/ If you don't like Dallas try San Antonio. Check out the La Mansion Del Rio. Good luck. |
I'd recommend Santa Fe, NM.
|
Barton Creek in Austin may fit the bill. I love their spa treatments.
|
Gaylord Texan in Grapevine will be excellent. Grapevine has 5 local wineries, all of which offer tastings!
|
I would suggest the hill country, maybe around Fredericksburg. It's very charming with beautiful scenery. You could find a fabulous B&B for under $300, and I'm sure they have some nice spas. I think there are some wineries in the area as well.
If you want something more cosmopolitan, Dallas would fit the bill. Hotel Zaza is fantastically trendy, or the Crescent or Mansion is great too. Both have good spas. |
How about the Hyatt Hill Country in San Antonio?
|
My daughter and I went to the Westin La Cantera for our birthday last fall, in San Antonio hill country (20 minutes from downtown I think). Great for their spa, dining and the shops at La Canterra are near by.

I have lived in Houston all of my life and my parents live in Dallas. You have already gotten the two best suggestions already. The Gaylord Texan is wonderful. And you are so close to a lot. Also, the Westin La Cantera is great. I would definately say those are the two best picks by far. Where are you coming from and have you chosen Texas in general or a particular area or are you thinking Texas for a specific reason?

The Gaylord Texan is very close to DFW Airport. Also, it is quite close to Grapevine Mills mall and lots of restaurants.
|
Two very well known spas in Austin are the Lake Austin Spa and Resort and The Crossings. Other than the Hill Country, it doesn't get any better than downtown Austin. The Driskill Hotel is a historic hotel right in the middle of all the action.
|
Just FYI, Lake Austin Spa has overnight accomodations (very expensive), but you can go for the day spa as well. Same with the Crossings. Lake Austin would be more convenient to downtown.
|
I forgot that I once stayed at the Omni Hotel in Austin and it was a nice place. I just looked at their website and they have a spa as well. Some rooms would give you views of the skyline and possibly the Capitol Bldg. too.
|
First thing I thought of is The Crossings in Austin.
It really depends on what you're looking for/expecting. The Gaylord is too "Disney" for me. |
Hi thanks for the responses. One of the women lives in Dallas, so we'd probably arrive in Dallas, but then want to move on from there (or fly directly to the destination). So, at any rate, not Dallas as a destination at this time (though good info for later). I was kind of thinking of something off the beaten track a bit, where the scenery is pretty, not necessarily in a major town. The hill country sounds interesting, I'll check into that, though I don't think we want a bed and breakfast. Any other ideas, let me know! Otherwise, I'll check into a few of these. thanks, annieladd

Hyatt Hill Country resort sounds like a good fit for what you want http://hillcountry.hyatt.com/hyatt/h...sanhcredirect1

Both Hyatt Hill Country and Westin La Cantera are is the same region, and agree that they are both worth you checking into.
|
I reccommend what others have suggested - the Hyatt Hill Country or the Lake Austin Spa or Crossings. April or May will be beautiful - not too hot yet and flowers in full bloom.
I don't know about any spas in Fredricksburg, but that would be a good destination too. Lots of wineries in the area. |
I'd strongly recommned the Hyatt Hill Country then. Ask for ground floor rooms, near the spa. The spa is in a different building, has its own pool, etc.
|
Another idea - Marble Falls. They have a fairly new Marriott at Horsehoe bay. http://www.horseshoebaymarriott.com/...sp?pageID=home
Also several wineries in the area. Should be very nice that time of year. |
