Girls Roadtrip from RI to CA...

Hey Guys!

So my friend and I are doing a roadtrip the first week of March from Rhode island to California, we're both 25 and want to know some great stops, good bars, good local shops (not malls or chains) a little sightseeing maybe, but really want to hear about some fun different routes. (we're both originally from CA so once we hit new mexico im good)

I really want to go through Oklahoma and Corpus Christi Texas...
So I was thinking ... something like Rhode island, New York, Pennsylvania, West virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New mexico, Arizona, California.. haha yaa so, if someone knows a good route... please comment!

Thank you!!

Are you driving your own car? Are you coming back to the east coast after southern California?
Corpus and Oklahoma are far apart so it might be better to see OK on the way and maybe Corpus Christi and New Orleans on the way back.

Two 25yo friends should probably devise a trip-planning scheme wherein they flip a coin to see who picks first, and then that person picks A spot to pass through enroute from, say, RI to New Mexico.

Upon conclusion, the other person picks another spot either between RI and that first choice, OR between the first choice, and NM.

Then it's back to the first person to choose site #3, and then the second person picks again... and you devise your route that way.

(I said "NM" because you implied you were likely to be traveling toward the south, and that you already had (your own ideas) there and beyond)

Your one way road trip comes to about 4050 miles depending on where in California. 63-64 hours. Starting in Providence RI - Winchester Virginia - Chattanooga Tennessee - New Orleans Louisiana - Corpus Christi Texas - Oklahoma City Oklahoma - Albuquerque New Mexico - Las Vegas Nevada - unknown destination southern California. The longest drives are 9.5 to 10 hours.
The shortest route actually goes north of Oklahoma City.

Well, since they didn't mention going to Tennessee or New Orleans, I would make the trip a lot simpler depending on how much of Texas they wanted to see.

Go to "Get Directions" at Google Maps and see how you like Providence-RI-Oklahoma City-Fort Worth-San Antonio-Grand Canyon-Santa Monica.

Does it have to be Corpus in Texas or are you just wanting to see the coast? Where in OK, or do you just want to generally see the state?

Yes, anyplace between Galveston ans Port Aransas would save a bunch of miles. Baton Rouge would save a few miles if you didn't want to see New Orleans.

@ Ackislander- thanks thats a good idea, I forgot about google maps.

@ Barblab- We've got family in Corpus Christi, thats why were heading that way...but I heard San Antonio is a good stop too...?

But were also not looking for just the fastest route, but good cities/towns/places to stop at.

Which route do you guys think would be better hitting:
Mississippi-Louisiana-Texas or Arkansas-Oklahoma- Texas ?

Thanks!!

There is a complete disconnect between fastest and most fun.

The Arkansas-Oklahoma-Texas Panhandle-New Mexico-Arizona route, basically I-40, will be a lot faster than going to Corpus Christi. On the other hand, no beaches.

You can take I-95 from Providence to North Carolina and get on I-40 all the way. You will see a lot of country, some of it like the Smokies, beautiful, and you can stop off or take short detours to Nashville and Memphis for music, Santa Fe and Taos for beauty, the Grand Canyon, and even Las Vegas.

If you take I-95 to I-10 at Jacksonville, FL, you visit Mobile, New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, and Tucson, with a side trip to Corpus. Much of this trip is desert. Nothing wrong with desert. Much of it is fantastic. But it is desert.

Take your choice. How much time and money have you got?
