Girls Gone Wild, Mate 1 Intimate Dating

These ads were pointed out by a poster in the lounge, but if one comes up on a thread you're on, they're pretty tough to miss.

Personally, I didn't think a travel site as reputable as Fodors would want to be associated with the likes of Girls Gone Wild, Mate 1 Intimate Dating (as opposed to regular dating, I guess), etc.

These ads and what they represent are degrading to females. How do you feel about these ads being on Fodors Forums?

I've made my position clear on the lounge thread.

I've emailed the fodors editors and told them that I do not approve of pornography links on this forum.

It just goes to show you that when it comes to earning a buck morals go out the window.

I found it absolutely disgusting and offensive. I, too, sent an email. Hope this is the last of it.

Joe Francis, the founder of the vile Girls Gone Wild, has been charged with sexual assault of a number of girls. Additionally, he is in jail I believe for something associated with tax evasion. The fact that fodors would associate with a company like Girls Gone Wild, a enterprise which makes money by getting girls (most underage it seems) to do ridiculous things fueled by *substances* is disturbing to say the least.

Hi BayouGal, I haven't seen the ad yet..I wonder why we all seem to have different ads? I certainly agree with your thinking and comments.

Well BayouGal, I just came back to this thread and YES I see the Girls Gone Wild advertisement. Disgusting is the understatement. I am sending an email to the editors of Fodor's also. I am sure that the editor's do not make the decision as to what ads appear on the various Fodor's Boards but hopefully they will send our emails onto to those that are the decision makers.

I just received an email back from Fodors stating that the recipient was confused, and asking, "did you see an ad advertising Girls Gone Wild on our site?"

Very strange!

this was their response to my email...

We, too, were very unhappy to learn of these ads. We have contacted our 3rd party ad manager to have the problem resolved. The two banners that were brought to our attention by yourself and others certainly do not reflect the values of Fodor’s, and we will do everything we can to prevent ads like them from appearing here in the future. Thanks again for calling these to our attention.

good for fodors.

Yea, Frank and beans! Good job.

My faith is restored in Fodors!

You know, with their reputation as a leader in the travel industry, I just could not fathom them using those ads.

Thank you for alerting us to these inappropriate ads. As mentioned above, we are investigating the matter. Thank you for giving us the benefit of the doubt--we do appreciate it!

Happy Friday to all!

As I look out my office window, I see Joe Francis' new home, which is the Bay County jail in Panama City, Florida. He is NOT in jail for tax charges. He is in jail for contempt of court in a federal civil case involving several underage girls wwo have sued him. You can read about it in the News Herald, the local newspaper. They have a big article today.

More about Joe Francis -- he was jailed recently in Panama City, FL on the federal contempt of court chrages. While being held in the Bay County jail, he allegedly offered a CO (corrections officer) $100.00 for a bottle of water. A search of his cell uncovered several hundred dollars and several pills, such a lunesta and the generic of zanax. For those who are not familiar with the criminal justice system, one is not allowed to bring money or medications into a jail. So, he was charged with attempted bribery and introduction of contraband into a detention facility. (I am a criminal defense lawyer, but have no connection to Francis.) Scott Barbour, The President of Mantra Films, who happens to be an attorney, was also arrested for bringing in the money and drugs to Francis. It is unlikely Francis will be release any time soon. The State filed criminal charges against him in 2003 and he had been out on bond since 2003, while the case drags through the court system. Our local state attorney has or will file a motion to revoke the bond from the 2003 case based on the new charges. As Panama City has a relatively small legal community, we have all enjoyed having a front row seat to the downfall of such an arrogant man.
