Girls Destination Help

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can give me a few ideas for a girls 40th trip. We'll be heading out of CHI (via flights) and would like somewhere to lie by the pool during the day and hit the bars at night. We don't want to rent a car. We've done Boston, NY, New Orleans. The West Coast is too far for some who can only go for a few days. So CA and Seattle are out. Plus, it would be around May so not a place where it will be unbearably hot. Thanks for any and all ideas.

OMG - go to South Beach! Stay at the Shore Club, Delano, or Raleigh. You can walk everywhere, and the pool scene is fantastic. It will be hot, but I think the pool/beach makes it bearable.

Las Vegas is easy to get to and can be quite pampering during the day plus great weather. The nights are very fun. The last time I went on a womens' trip, we didn't even gamble.

Thanks for the South Beach thing but we are not clubbers, more pubbers. Plus end of May in FL, that's really humid. Vegas has been done time and time again with us. I know, we're picky, that's why I need help!

What about Austin? Its definitely a more laid back going out scene. The Four Seasons on Town Lake has a great pool and is walking distance or a short cab from tons of bars and restaurants.

I love Austin. Good idea. I throw it out to the girls.

How about Charleston?

I like Charleston too, but not sure about Humidity in May.

Judy,
There also is a nice Hyatt with a pool right on Town Lake, if Four Seasons rates are very high that weekend.

Vegas!

How about Bermuda? I did this a couple years ago for our 50th and we had a great time (although I can't speak to the bars).

How about the Keys? We are going in April I can't wait!

How about Scottsdale, AZ? You could take a day trip to Sedona.

Thanks for the suggestions. Vegas is out. We've all been there a million times. It's likely around May so I think some places might be too hot.

I was originally going to suggest Toronto, but because you are looking for pool time, I'm thinking May may be too cool..unless of course you get a hotel with an indoor pool, otherwise I think you'd LOVE Toronto

Of all the places mentioned, I would second the suggestion of Bermuda. It is stunning and you can go pubbing.

My two best friends and I went to Vegas for our 40th celebration and had a blast...none of use gamble or drink too much so it wasn't overly expensive!

How about Denver? It will be a short flight and should be warm enough in May for some pool time (although your temperature preferences may be higher than mine).

judy1234 Feb 21st, 2008 09:34 AM

Thanks for the ideas. Not everyone has passports so it has to be U.S. Vegas is out, we've been there a few times and I'm not a big fan of it. I love the Keys but it's a pain to get to for a long weekend and for some who will only be able to come for a short weekend. I was thinking Denver might work. Does anyone know if Santa Fe has any bars? Thanks again.

lvk Feb 22nd, 2008 07:49 AM

If you don't want to rent a car, then Santa Fe might not be for you. You would have to fly into Albuquerque, as there is no major airport in Santa Fe, and drive the hour north to SF. The Cowgirl Bar there is fun, though.

Scottsdale will be blazing hot in May also.

Newport, RI might be fun for you. Fly into Providence, take a shuttle into Newport. Lots of great bars and pubs in walking distance of downtown. Pool weather in May, might be iffy, though.

There has been 5+" of snow on the ground in May in Denver 4 of the last 5 years. Typically it will snow and melt within 24 hours, it's pretty muddy at that time of year so I wouldn't suggest it for hanging by the pool. But the nightlife in Denver is great.

Travelattorney45 Apr 2nd, 2008 07:35 PM

Go to the Bahamas.

Travelattorney45 Apr 2nd, 2008 07:37 PM

Adding to my reply- How about.......

Why not San Fran, and see the wine country? You guys would have a ball there?

Thanks for the ideas. Not everyone has Passports so out of the country is out. CA is too far for some who can only pop in for a few days. We've changed the date until summer so Denver and Newport, RI are our choices. Thanks.
