Gettysburg accomodations
Any suggestions on where to stay in Gettysburg? Would prefer to be able to walk out the door to dinner/downtown rather than drive. Would rather not be on a "strip" with chain restaurants, etc. Daughter will be at Gettysburg College on overnight visit, so I need to feel safe walking as I'll be alone at night. Also, I do NOT want to be in a haunted hotel. Thanks!

Note: I realize I can easily do a web search for a list of hotels, but am hoping for the personal feedback.

Good question. If you can find anything close to the main square, that would be a good choice. I wish I could give you information on specific hotels, but I haven't stayed near the college. Otherwise, I would recommend the Holiday Inn on Baltimore as a good location. The admissions office is only about three blocks off the square (traffic circle). From the circle you can also walk safely down Baltimore Street to reach many more shops and restaurants.

It's been a few years, but I stayed at the Brafferton Inn in Gettysburg. It is right downtown on the main square (circle?). We were able to walk to dinner, etc, and felt very safe.
The inn is a beautiful old stone building and they have expanded into the neighboring buildings too. I'd definitely stay there again, especially if alone. Lucy |
momof2, I am with you. I have wanted to go to Gettysburg for several years now and cannot seem to manage to get it into my schedule. My number one priority is NOT to stay somewhere that is supposedly "haunted."
I am a rational, educated adult and the thought of staying at a "haunted" place just creeps me out. I had a trip to Savannah ruined because I was told that the B & B we were staying in was haunted. |
