Getty Museum ....Malivue Villa vs LA Museum
We will be in LA next month with our 10 yr old granddaughter. We visited the Malibu villa previously and aren't sure whether to take her to the Villa or the LA museum.
Has anyone been to both museums? I'd be interested in some first hand observations.

I visited both recently (in late Feb this year). Enjoyed both immensely. When you said you've visited the Getty Villa previously - do you mean before or after the renovation?
Getty Villa requires advance tickets (free) and you should request them ASAP esp if you're visiting on a weekend.
Anyway, with a 10yr-old, I think she'll enjoy the Villa more.

I've been to both and of the two I think your 10-year-old granddaughter will enjoy the Villa more ONLY if she is interested in Greek and Roman antiquities and is thinking about collecting ancient pottery and relics.
The LA Museum has much more to interest a youngster, such as over-the-top modern art that is likely to amuse her and stimulate her imagination.
However, The Getty Center, is THE museum for children. When we were there in April, the place was crawling with families picnicing on the grounds--it was a delight to see. The galleries are varied, the views are spectacular, the gardens are wonderful, and the restaurant has something to appeal to your granddaughter.

Maybe we will try to do both. Since cost isn't a factor.
I'm thinking a couple of hours with her in the Villa..does that sound right? I have tickets already.
Would a couple of hours in the Getty Center be ok with her or should I allow more time?

Play it by ear. The Villa has a fantastic setting and the building is wonderful; however, we got bored with the exhibits after an hour.
If you go to the Villa, you might enjoy lunch at Duke's, which is nearby. The food isn't all that great, but it's on the water and it is a Malibu institution.
