Getty center and Getty Villa
If we want to visit both it seems as though we would need 2 days. From my reading it looks as though the Center needs a day about how long does the villa take?
|
I think the villa (MaLIBU) actually needs more time, but neither really a full day.
|
We stayed about 5 hours at the Villa but that included just hanging around enjoying the weather and people watching.

I think the Center needs more time, the terraces make for splendid views, do walk down to the gardens and see the fountains from there. The first time we visited, there was an extensive display in the lowest level about the construction of the center which was fascinating. Look up what is on display. Then, get the driving time to drive out to Malibu to the Villa. Lunch will take some time at either, so perhaps skip that till you're at the second venue. Be careful to note the closing days of each. I think you can definitely do both in one day, barring the unpredictable traffic. You might opt to travel west via Sunset Strip, an interesting winding, historical boulevard of broken dreams, but there are lots of lights. But you can hop on right in Brentwood. If you take I-10 (Pasadena Fwy) you have a ways to go north once on the PCH to the Villa. We were there last February and it was sunny and 87! Had to walk the beaches to cool off. Winters '14 and '15 in southern CA were running hotter than FL. We ended the day up in Topanga Canyon.

Are you leaving the little ones - then I'd read up these two links.

Saturday is a good day to visit both because The Getty Center is open until 9pm. The Getty Restaurant (very nice, great views) is open for dinner...& the more casual café is open until 6 on Saturdays .
If you pay to park at one, you can visit the other with the same parking pass on that day, so you'll save $15. |
The Villa requires a timed entry reservation. The Center doesn't.
If you're coming in the summer, the (beach) traffic to/from the Villa can be heavy and slow, esp. on weekends. Listen to radio traffic reports (AM 1070) for accidents. |
