Getting to JFK on the morning of the NYC Marathon

didn't realize that the marathon was going on this weekend until after we planned our trip to NYC - our flight leaves JFK Sunday around 10am - will we have any trouble getting to the
airport? suggested routes to take (taking a cab)? thanks

You probably have to be at the airport 2 hrs early... si?
which means you'll leave Manhattan around 7ish. it will probably take about 1/2 hr to 45 min to get to JFK at that hour. The elite runners start about 9.am and it doesn't take them long to get to Manhattan! But you should be long gone by then,

There will be streets blocked even before the marathon starts. And there will be 40,000 runners headed to Staten Island. - but if you call a car service they will know how to avoid then. And it does depend on where your hotel is.

As long as you are staying south of 59th Street, I can't imagine the marathon having any effect on your trip from Manhattan to JFK at all. The biggest hint is to have your taxi take the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, since the 59th St Bridge is where the runners enter Manhattan.

Again, where is your hotel or apartment?

Runners usually don't make it into Manhattan till 10:30am earliest, when you should already be up-n-away.

Even with streets north of 59th Street (mostly East Side) closed off, you shouldn't have any problem leaving from anywhere at 7am, even 8am.

The car service will know how to get you from point-A to B.
