Getting to Brown U from NYC
We'll be visiting NYC for a week in February and are interested in a day trip to Providence to check out Brown. Is there a subway-to-train-route that gets us close to the campus? Any awesome teachers who classes we could sit in on-lit/theater? Any web sites to steer us to? We also would appreciate info on getting from Manhatten to Flushing-would that be a subway or bus trip, or both?

Amtrak stops in Providence - bus from train station to College Hill (where Brown is) can be annoying - I would get a cab.

I assume you've looked at the website?
http://www.brown.edu/web/visiting/ You might want to consider arranging for a tour of the campus. This website happens to list options for getting from NYC to Prov. http://www.epextravaganza.com/trans.htm There's a bus or the train from Penn Station. Flushing is in Queens and is serviced by the subway or buses. Here's the subway map http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm There's also a link there to bus routes. Where in Flushing do you want to go? |
You do realize that from NYC to Providence is more than 3 hours each way on the train - probably the best part of 4 hours each way including getting from your hotel to Penn Station and from the Providence Station to Brown. Kind of a long day - with 8 hours of travel plus a college visit.

Brown is just a short walk from the Providence AMTRAK station. About 15 minutes, but the last part very steep uphill. If you can walk, then walk. If not, just take a taxi. Should be pretty cheap.
There is no subway system in Providence. |
