Getting to Anchorage from Inland Passage - Best way to travel?

Taking the ferry from Prince Rupert to Juneau, then on to Haines.

What is best way to get from Haines area (willing to go back to Skagway or Juneau) to Anchorage? Car, plane, train or ferry again? Trying to go as economically as possible, of course. There are two of us.

Will have 7 days left on our trip once reaching Haines, and want to leave enough time to enjoy Kenai before flying home from Anchorage.

Any input would be great!

Thanks all!

We had a car so were able to drive from Skagway to Anchorage. Be aware that it's about a 2 day drive. We overnighted at Tok. Figure the expense of gas (I think it was 750 miles) and hotel and compare to cost of a commuter flight.

The fastest and most economical would be Alaska Air from Juneau. Unless you are going to have your car with you, it would be difficult and expensive to arrange a one-way rental car from Haines to Anchorage.

Thanks for your input. Is the drive worth it?? I looked at Milepost and it seems like there is a lot to stop and see along the way.

Or would our time be better spent over Anchorage way?

Thanks again!!

It's beautiful country but 750 miles is a loooong drive and it begins to look the same. There was a beautiful lake and there was also an old burn area with acres of fireweed in bloom ... but there is so much more to see and do around Anchorage.

How are you getting to Prince Rupert?

Flying from Vancouver BC. Will have an all day layover in Vancouver and planning to get out & see Stanley Park. Any other suggestions? I hear the food is fabulous there

Hello All -

Thanks for all your help and responses. We had a FANTASTIC trip to Alaska. Great weather - Yes!!! And with your help, the itinerary we planned went perfectly.

Thank you all. Hoping to get back to Alaska in the springtime to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights. We think we saw them briefly one night while on the ferry at 2AM as it left Wrangell, but it was just a glimpse. Who has been to Chena Hot Springs for that?

Thanks again.

P.S. The sky train in Vancouver worked well. We made it to the lake and had a nice little lunch in Boontown.
