Thanks, BayouGal. Really good info here. One question for our trip- we're planning 8 days and had originally planned to split it evenly between GT and YS. Would you spend less time in GT?

Yellowstone is so much larger than GT , with at least four distinct geologic/wildlife/vegetation regions, that an even split of your time will shortchange Yellowstone.
