Getting Married in Charleston

My fiance and I are interested in hearing from anyone that got married in Charleston. It's a second marriage for both of us and we were thinking about getting married at a hotel/B&B. Any suggestions?

A Nice Hotel for a wedding is the Mills House--

A Nice BnB for a wedding is the Elliott House Inn outdoor in the patio....

Consider 2 Meeting street Inn - ( Was built as a wedding present by brides father) You can get married in park across the street. ( We saw 2 wedding in this park one afternoon while sitting on the front porch of this Inn.

My son and his fiancee are getting married at the Mills House next January. They have a website that will show you the different venues that are available and the size group it will accomodate. Don't know how far in advance you need to make reservations, though. I have also witnessed weddings held in the park at the Battery and in front of the pineapple fountain in Waterfront Park.

Best wishes!

If money is no object, big wedding, Charleston Place. Small wedding Wentworth Mansion or The Planters Inn. While I like the Mills House, it is a Holiday Inn.

Hubby and I eloped to Charleston - we stayed at the Ashley Inn and *walked* a couple of blocks to the Charleston Chapel for Weddings and "did the deed." Four years later, and I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm from Charleston and got married there. We were married at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Broad Street which is beautiful, but too big for what you're looking for (also Catholic) so that limits you as well. Our reception was in the Francis Marion hotel (formerly a Westin, but now independent). It is a very historic hotel, but there are smaller places to consider. Jason Dolby is a fantastic coordinator there.

The Jasmine House Inn has a beautiful courtyard that is large enough for a small wedding. Also, the Battery (outdoors on the water) is a great location for the very small wedding if the weather cooperates. You need a permit from the city (very inexpensive). There is a new hotel called the Market Pavilion that has a wonder rooftop bar and pool area that has a stunning view of the harbor. I don't know if you can rent it out for a wedding one afternoon, but it would be lovely if you could. It's also a wonderful place to spend your wedding night.

There are also plantations around Charleston that would be beautiful - Magnolia Gardens, Middleton Place, Alhambra Hall in Mt. Pleasant also if you want something outdoors with the moss-covered oak trees feeling. Good luck!

Just a note, the Mills House is ok, but more for a convention than a wedding.

I live in Charleston and one of the most beautiful weddings I've attended was at the Woodlands Resort in Summerville, about 20 miles north of Chas. Conde Nast Traveler mag. rated it the #2 small hotel in North America. They have beautiful gardens & grounds for an outdoor wedding, or a separate pavilion that seats about 100 if you want to do it indoors. Also the parlor or winter garden rooms would be nice settings for a small ceremony. Food is absolutely to die for and it would be a very romantic place to honeymoon as well. A lot of celebrities stay there when they are in town filming- Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis, Samuel Jackson, etc. Of course, they all have the movie company footing the bill! The only downside is all this luxury doesn't come cheap, but they do offer wedding packages. Their website is www.woodlandsinn.com

If you absolutely must be downtown, I second the vote for Two Meeting Street Inn. It books up well in advance, so if you want it start planning now.

I can second the Charleston Chapel that was listed above as that was where my husband and I got married. I am not sure how large of a wedding you want as this is a chapel but it is simply beautiful. We wanted a small wedding and this fit the bill perfectly and they handled everything. I did not have a care in the world. It is located in historic downtown Charleston and I can not say enough fabulous things about this place.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. We too were married in Charleston. It was lovely! Check out Middleton Place. We were married by the old oak tree (I believe it is 900 years old). It is really pretty for a small wedding. If you are looking for something larger, they can accomodate that as well. Middleton was a dream to work with especially since I was planning from out of state. Middleton also has a lovely Inn on site - Highly recommend.

I personally wasn't in love with Charleston Place. It is a nice hotel, but lacks the charm of some of the other hotels or b&b's.

I don't think you can go wrong in Charleston. Best of luck.

I was married in Charleston as well.
We held our ceremony at Charleston Place Hotel and had the reception across the street at Planters Inn
-they have a wonderful secluded garden and fountain courtyard area, which is next to a private room surrounded by french doors. It was sooo romantic and very intimate with twinkling lights in the palms, candles and beautiful flowers. Everyone at Planters Inn was very helpful.
Hands down, my suggestion for a band (if you want a band) is Joe Clarke...he is amazing!
I lived in Memphis at the time so it was very dificult for me to plan a wedding in another city. When I called Joe, I told him what I was looking for in a band: Frank Sintra style, no cheesy stuff. He said "I'm your man, I can sing for you now if you'd like." So I requested "Fly me to the moon"...and he proceded to serenade me over the phone w/ the most beautiful Harry Connick Jr. style voice.I was blown away!
He made my wedding a hit. Everyone was so impressed with him.
The honeymoon: We stayed right there at Planters Inn in lovely honeymoon suite. Later we took official honeymoon in the Maldives.
Hope your wedding will be wonderful!
