Getting from Phoenix to Tucson
 

If one were to fly, which airline is best? What would you expect to pay? Or would it be better just to plan to drive? Can you drive it in 2 hours?

The drive from Phoenix to Tucson is my favorite! It takes me about 1 and 3/4 hrs from PHX to the Tucson city limits. The landscape is interesting and there are plenty of places to stop along the way.
There is also a van type shuttle from the airport PHX to Tucson. You can probably get info on that at the airport website

I suppose you can fly, but it seems like a waste of time and money. Driving is the way to go: straight interstate highway through the desert (some of it picturesque). You can do it in under two hours.

Drive, by the time you get to the airport and go through security you will already be in Tucson. It is an easy drive.

Never been to the US! (So take no notice of me, if you like!) - but will be there in a couple of weeks time. I DID have Phoenix to Tucson on my itinerary (before I scrubbed it for the cooler mountains) and the route was a bit 'different' to driving straight down Rt(?) 10. It would take you longer than 2 hours and so it would be quicker to fly!! From Phoenix to Tempe - Mesa - Apache Jct - Florence Jct - then to Superior for the World's Smallest Museum (http://www.worldssmallestmuseum.com/)- very quirky (especially if you like Apache tears!!). Then we were to backtrack to Florence Jct and down to Florence and then drive to Tucson via the Pinal Pioneer Parkway (http://roadtrip.users4.50megs.com/rt177/rt177.html) You should get to Tucson in time for bed! :)

I'd drive, in fact we do all the time. A good percentage of people that live in Tucson drive up to Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) for flights. Generally they are cheaper and more frequent. It's pretty much a straight shot down I-10 from PHX to TUS. No way to get lost :-). It is a pretty boring drive, but traffic speeds right along at well over 80 most of the way (75 is the legal limit, and police do patrol).

The flight time between the two cities is about 15-20 min. but the hassle of changing planes makes it more of a pain then it is worth for most people. It also depends on what part of Tucson you are heading for, from my house to PHX airport it is just about 90 min. drive but I'd figure 2 hours for other locations in Tucson.

It definitely is not a picturesque drive or a pretty one IMO, but it sure is an easy one, get on I-10 and head south, couldn't be easier or faster.

Many years ago I used to take U.S 60 to Superior, turn on Arizona 177 and head south thru Kearny, Hayden Junction, Winkelman; Turn south again on Arizon 77 to Tucson. It was a great drive. Different scenery.

Thanks guys. The server wouldn't let me post yesterday. If I can't get the flights I want into Tucson, I think I will try driving from Phoenix.

The problem with flying from Phoenix to Tucson is that, due to the short distance of the flight, the plane never gets up very high. If the weather is hot, the entire flight is a turbulence nightmare.
