Getting from LaGuardia to 57th street

My friend from Canada is joining me at the end of my week in New York City. She's asked me how to get from LaGuardia to the Salisbury Hotel, on 57th Street, across from Carnegie Hall. I said, just take a taxi.
I use Newark now myself, so I don't know much about LaGuardia anymore
Can anyone suggest alternative methods of getting from the airport to our hotel?
Thanks.
She's never been to the city and is so excited...being a big fan of great museums.

Cab is fine. Cheaper would be Carey (airport) Coach, actually a buss from LGA to Grand Central. Then a cab. Pretty easy trip.
Easiest is taxi. Around $22-27, plus tip and toll. Caught right outside the luggage retrieval area. Also, there's a desk there where you can sign up for alternative transportation. Like the vans that take people into Manhattan. The trick I learned with those vans (they are cheaper than a taxi if you are travelling alone & can't share the fare) is that they look at where all their passengers want to go, and then they travel from the Upper East Side down to the East side of Lower Manhattan and only then will cross town to the West Side and move up toward Central Park & onward. So, (unless you are lucky and the van isn't crowded)east side people get dropped at their hotels first, and west siders go along for a LONG ride. Upper West Side folks can sometimes spend 2+ hours on that van & are the last to be dropped off! Keep that in mind when deciding whether it is a good deal for you.

Thanks. This is of great help and I shall email your advice to my friend in Ontario.

A taxi would be the fastest and most convenient way to go. The taxi meter will read less than $20. The toll (if a toll facility is used) will be $3.50 and a tip is extra. Since your friend is going to W. 57th Street the taxi driver could take the 59th ST. bridge which does not have a toll. If I were going to 57th from LGA there is no doubt that I would use the toll free bridge.
