getting downtown from Denver Int'l airport

What is the least expensive way for two people to get downtown to a rental car agency from the Denver International Airport. Renting the car downtown saved a bundle over renting it at the airport.
There is public transportation. Go to google.com and enter Denver International Airport for the officialsite. It does not list prices but gives numbers to call.
I have saved as much as 50% on renting at the airport by bidding on Priceline.
Check Hotwire first and get their final price--that way you will know how much the surcharges and taxes are. Then bid on PL.

I will also add that on your return allow the FULL 2 hours to get to your gate. Denver security is just about the most thorough we have experienced.

If you do choose to stick with your downtown car rental (though priceline probably would be even better at the airport), then I suggest that just one of you takes the bus to the downtown area. The other person can stay at the airport with the luggage and be picked up with the rental car.

Not to naysay anyone else's advice but the trip to downtown Denver from the airport is all of 30 minutes and can be longer. Going all the way back to the airport is a nightmare. I agree that some of the "savings" is going to get eaten up with transport to town--both ways too. I have waited at the airport while my husband got the rental car on the premises and it has sometimes been 30-45 minutes even then.

Just make sure that the downtown facility will be open when you need to return the car. Many of them are not open evenings and weekends as are the ones at the airport.

Polly makes a REALLY good point. Our flights often leave Denver at 7AM and we turn in the car at the airport at 5AM.

The RTD AF bus runs about every 30 minutes to downtown. Most buses have a baggage compartment. I think the fare is $6. I usually can find a good rate at dollar.com, much cheaper than Hertz.

I think that the RTD bus might be listed under Skyride at the RTD site. Avoid the 2:30 to 3:30 bu. It's shift change and the skyrides are filled with employees. The rest of the day is great.

Go to DIA's website and there is a list of shuttle's. Super Shuttle is a well known company among others.
