Getting away for the weekend from NYC
Does anyone know of some inexpensive weekend getaway spots from New York City? Any information would be greatly appreciated-best method to get there, hotel recommendations, restaurants, etc. Thanks so much!

Philadelphia makes a nice weekend getaway. You could either drive New Jersey Turnpike or take the Amtrak from Penn Station and get off at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. There are numerous cabs waiting outside the station.
Some hotel recommendations: Sheraton Rittenhouse http://www.sheratonphiladelphia.com/ Westin http://www.starwood.com/westin/index.html Park Hyatthttp://parkphiladelphia.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml Crowne Plaza http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/...0SJBVFAKHFOIY4 Hilton Garden Inn http://www.hiltongardenphilly.com/ Omni http://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/default.asp?h_id=29 Restaurants: Italian: Upstares at Varalli Spasso Davios Seafood: McCormick and Schmicks Philadlephia Fish and Company Steak: Capital Grille Friday, Saturday, Sunday Morton's of Chicago American/Continental: Fork Twenty-21 London Grill French: Brasserie Perrier Bistro St. Tropez Mexican: Tequilas The following websites also have lots of great information. http://gophila.com/ http://philadelphia.citysearch.com/ |
I second Vargervick's recommendation about Philadelphia. I believe that they have a hotel deal going on now for the weekends (pay for one night and get the second one free. Parking is included)

laya0316, give us some hints, ok?
What do you consider inexpensive? (price per room per night) City or country? Do you have a car or do you need places accessible by public transportation? How far are you willing to travel? Who is traveling--adults, families, seniors,? And most of all interests --shopping, museums, beaches, hiking, or what? Philadelphia is a great city but if you're not looking for another city... Also, the hotels listed are really nice, but certainly not "budget" so who knows if it's what you consider inexpensive |
In response to Nyer's questions--It will be my boyfriend and myself traveling (we're in our mid-20s). Philly is a great choice but we'd like something more quaint and in the country if possible (other city suggestions would be welcome to!). We'd be willing to pay between $100-$150/night (even less would be great) and would be willing to travel up to 3 hours from the city (by plane or driving). We're interested in various activities-museums, beaches, hiking.

Rhinebeck NY. 2 1/2 hours from NYC. Stay at the Beekman Arms."Oldest Inn in America"..loads of charm.
Dinner at Le Petit Bistro. Go antiquing, drive into the Berkshires, about an hour away, go to Great Barrington, shop, eat. Excellent weekend away. |
