Getting around San Diego......
Visiting for 4 days and will have a car now for only 2 days (unexpected). Should I try to rent one for the weekend and drive to the airport on Monday, pay parking at hotel and wherever I go......or take a taxi here and there and try to use the Trolley System? We're staying at Hilton San Diego on the Bay. Any idea of the prices of taxis, probably just a few miles here and there. Thanks.

Your hotel is not close to anything. I have no idea about buses that may go nearby, sorry, but the trolley certainly does not go near your hotel. IMO you would be best to have a car for the weekend. Taxis seem to be more expensive these days, partly because the price of gas is so high.

Thanks Barbara. I know I won't be near much but not sure how far a taxi ride would be to get to the Trolley and we could hop on and off at least one day. SeaWorld is 2 miles from the hotel. I'll re-check the rentals.

Maybe things have changed. I am sure the hotel will offer a van ride to sea world or other places. (Some type of transportation.) If you could pick up the trolley at sea world that would work. Other than that the trolley is in Old town down the freeway. That is the closest place that I know of, but of course I haven't been there in a long time.

I stayed at the SD Marriott and Marina about a year ago and managed for 5 days without a car but it wasn't easy and my friends in Southern Cal said I was speaking heresy. ;-)
There's a transit info center near Horton Plaza, but it was closed eves and weekends and the online trip planner wasn't always helpful.
I made it to the zoo and Sea World and a couple other places around town by heading in the general direction checking the transit map and some good luck.
For Sea World, you can take the Trolley to the Old Town Transit Center. From there, two buses run to SW. One goes clockwise around Mission Bay and the other goes counter-clockwise.
The trip to and from the airport was pretty quick on the Number 992 bus.
As everyone else said a car is easier, but with a bit of patience you can do without.
