Getting around Chicago

I'd like to know if it's reasonable to use public transportation from downtown Chicago to the White Sox stadium, and also to the Botanic Gardens. They both seem a good distance from downtown, and we won't have a car. Thanks!

for the white sox stadium(cell one field) trasportation could not be easier. just get on the red line and it will take about 15-20 minutes. drops you off right next to the stadium. Tell us where you are staying and we can tell you were the stop is.

For the botanic gardens it is not so easy. you will need to take metra up to the northern suburbs. I can't remeber which stop

if you want to see great flowers and plants chicago has 2 great conservatories that are much closer than the botanic gardens
Garfield park(sometimes ahs public art as well) and Lincoln park(near the zoo)

Going to Chicago in August. Can you take a bus to the Gardens and the Zoo from the downtown area?

dgruzew Jul 1st, 2004 01:38 PM

The zoo is no problem by bus

www.transitchicago.com

the 151,156 are your best bet but the 22, and the 36 run down clark street, which is not far either. there are tons of cool resturants , shops and bars on clark also

I think there might even be a free trolley to linclon park in the summer - but I am not sure

Linclon park has an indoor conservatory
the botanacal gardens are in the northern suburbs you will have to take metra

There are free trolleys to Lincoln Park in the summer, here's the website.

If you have a CTA pass though, you might want to take the bus, I imagine the trolleys get crowded and they only go every 1/2 hour or so.

If you are up in the Lincoln Park area, you might wander over to Clark St., there's a good pizza place called My Pie, on Clark St. just north of Fullerton. There's also a nice little French bistro near the zoo called Mon Ami Gabi but only open for dinner.
