Am I missing something here? I always put jewellery in my carry on...never a problem. People wear engagement rings on their fingers as they pass through security so why wld there ever be a problem if it is in a carry-on? What did I miss here?

Put it in a plastic coin bag and keep it in his pocket. That way he won't loose it and a ring won't set off the dectector. Do they make you take your ring off your finger?

wow-
sometimes carry-on stuff gets pulled over and opened. Kellbell's BIL is worried that if this happens, the girlfriend might see the ring and the surprise will be spoiled.

Tell him to drop it into his underwear. If the alarm sounds he simply says he has on "body jewelry" and he'l probably get right through.

My husband hide my ring in a padded envelope in our camera carry-on bag. He knew the bag would be searched and therfore eliminated not knowing if it would be searched or not. When they opened the camera bag I was none the wiser because it is always searched. I was shocked and surprised.

My wife goes through security at airports with her engagement ring and wedding ring on her finger. No questions asked because they do not trigger the alarm.

I think putting the ring in carryon is ok.
But be right there to grab the luggage.

This business of having to take off one's shoes can be a bummer. I would sacrifice the socks to get the carry-on securely in my grip.

LOL, Dukey!!

If you bother to read the fine print on the checked-through luggage agreement, you will notice that it specifically excludes coverage to jewelry, electronic, antiques and breakables. So, if the airline loses his checked through bag he can't even file a claim for the ring.

Don't put it in your pocket! They make men empty their pockets. Don't do it!
