getaways from nj???
 

My fiance and I are looking to getaway for a couple of days in july. we will be traveling from nj and prefer not to spend >5-6hours in the car and are not interested in flying. We enjoy the beach as well as staying in B&B--any suggestions?

Dutchess County NY is a short ride and an interesting area to explore. There are wineries to do tastings & tours, historic drives & sites to visit, farm markets, and the Hudson River Valley Mansions to check out. Also the CIA is there for great dinners. Great day /weekend trips from NYC/NJ are as tpatricco suggests, Hudson Valley area, and add to that, the Berkshires!
You can get there in about 3 hours, great shopping, beautiful area, antiquing, good eating and some nice towns with museums. In the summer there are many craft fairs and country markets.

My favorite getaway from NJ (w/o leaving NJ) is visiting Island Beach State Park, be sure to arrive early in the morning before parking fills up.

I recall the park closing at ((#))dusk((S)) and if I'm not mistaken the governor is the only one allowed to &quot;camp&quot; there overnight.:S-</font></font>

Have not done it personally but I have seen people camping at parks on the beach on Long Island, that is if you can handle the ((o))drive and traffic. Possibly CT or RI may also have beach camping.:?

We went to Philadelphia for the weekend last Spring, from NYC which would make your trip about 2 hours..maybe 3 at the most. I loooved it and hope to go back this fall.
Like a small NYC, there is a great shopping area, great restaurants, the Old historical section, more than enough to do for a weekend.

How about New Hope,PA/Lamberville, NJ? It's very relaxing and there are plenty of nice b&amp;b's there as well.

Depending on how far you want to drive, Newport, RI has beautiful mansions to tour &amp; good restaurants as well. Also DC is within your 5-6 hour max driving radius. There's always Lancaster County, PA or Amish Country, Baltimore MD with Inner Harbor Aquarium etc. Mystic, CT...many choices!

lawngirl, Nantucket is fantastic, one of my favorite places in the world...but it's <i>far</i>. You don't say where in NJ you are, but from NYC it would take about 6 hrs to drive <i>to</i> the ferry, I think. I was going to suggest Spring Lake, NJ. On the beach and quaint Victorian B &amp; Bs &amp; Inns.
