getaways from Houston

Can anyone please suggest ideas for driving out of Houston, Texas for 1-2 day trips? We like nature photography, artsy shops, pretty towns, maybe some birding, countryside, maybe a taste of classic Texas, state parks, wildflower fields, canyons, waterfalls etc
Thanks!

Sounds like you need to go to the Hill Country of Texas which is famous for its rolling hills, clear streams, and German architecture. Explore German towns such as Fredricksburg, Boerne, and Castroville. Eat German food. Check out Bandera, the self-proclaimed “Cowboy Capital of the World”. Ride horses on a nearby guest (dude) ranch. Float or tube one of the rivers such as the Frio, Medina, Guadalupe or Blanco. Go hiking in Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, or Lost Maples State Natural Area.

Lafayette, LA is only 3.5 hours away. It has Zydeco and Cajun music venues. You can also eat tasty Cajun food such as red beans and rice, Jambalaya, and Creole Gumbo at restaurants such as Dwight's. The downtown is lively most of the time. Nearby is the Acadia Village: “This replica of an 1820s Acadian village sits on over 10 acres of land which is home to authentic looking houses, stores, and chapels with period gardens”.Between Lafayette and St. Martinsville is the Cypress Island Swamp! Walk on the boardwalk and view alligators and many types of birds beneath live oak and cypress trees dripping with Spanish moss.

PrarieHiker has some fantastic ideas for a visit to the Hill Country, but the OP asked about day trips. If the OP can stay overnight in the Hill Country that's great. But if a day trip is the plan, the Hill Country is a bit far from Houston.

Looks like we could do one night and 2 days

if you have suggestions for an itinerary and where might be a good place to stay, that would be helpful

thanks!

if anyone has specific lodging recommendations in Hill Country - nice accommodations, quiet, scenic and drivable to sights, I would appreciate hearing your suggestions!

Fredricksburg features stone buildings built by Germans, biergardens and a lively downtown. Not sure about lodging. https://www.visitfredericksburgtx.co...RoCdvIQAvD_BwE https://www.traveltexas.com/cities-a.../hill-country/
