Getaway to Relax

We will be in Boston for 4 days the first of August, coming from Texas heat! We love hole in the wall good locals places to eat and sight seeing. We have been tied to 2 college tuitions and haven't traveled in awhile. Any rec's on yummy food apprectd and also should we do a day trip to experience MV? We would be on foot - do they have mopeds? Is there a yummy place to eat on MV? Thanks for your help - we just planned this Monday morning and leave for Boston Saturday!! Much needed chillin'!

Try little Italy many great italian places, you must try Mike's pastry best cannoli's ever. Christy's on Newbury street. Jepher(not sure spelling) Down side street between newbery and copely. Great cheap middle eastern lunch. PF Chang's has great chinese, try the lettuces wrap and the great wall of china for dessert

Given your tight time, I am not too sure that it is worth the time it will take to get to MV. Maybe take the ferry to Provincetown instead?

Go to www.chowhound.com, register for free and click on their Boston board. You will get much more help there. Good luck. Bon Appetit.

Mike's pastry is a tourist trap. It's the biggest pastry shop in the North End, they have a big counter with lots of different things; lots of tourists run around with bags and pastry boxes saying "Mike's Pastry". But you'll be hard pressed to find a local who goes there. A lot of their items are not fresh, and are too sweet.

The best cannolli are filled fresh to order and are at Modern Pastry, also on Hanover Street. Another very good shop in the North End for pastries is Maria's along the greenway. Ask any true local or look at Chowhound for reviews on this and all food topics.

They do have mopeds on MV, but unfortunately quite few tourists rent them and get into accidents. Drive safely.

I was a local for 45 years (lived in Admiral's Hill in Chelsea just across the bridge) and I LOVE Mike's Pastry!!

I do like Modern Pastry as well.

I have never had an issue with freshness at either place.
