Getaway places from NC for Memorial weekend

We are from NC and have pretty much covered the east coast. Looking to cover a few popular spots (by car) to the west of North Carolina during the memorial day long weekend. Please recommend a few places (considering TN, AR, MS for now)

Would be helpful to know what kind fo vacation you are seeking & where you are originating. Chattanooga is a good 'city spot' w/some options as well. There are also a plethora of neat little towns in the extreme reaches of NC & N. Georgia as well. The only place I would recommend in MS would be Natchez. Which is probably too far if you plan on driving. Nashville falls into a similar cartegory.

We are based out of Raleigh..Seeking a outdoorsy trip. Actively considering Chattanooga. Thanks

Have you been to Peaks of Otter?

I like Memphis, but I do love Elvis.

How much do you want to drive? Arkansas and Mississippi would be quite a drive from Raleigh - just to Nashville or Birmingham is 8-9 hours. But if the plan is to do a road trip with most of the time in the car, that might be fine.

Chattanooga is great - lots to do downtown and in the Bluff View district, plus lots of nature around the area.

Nashville has a lot to offer if you're interested in music, or Civil War history; there's also the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg that's a fun day trip. Memphis is fun as well.

Not sure how much time you have but if going to Chattanooga I would likely break up the trip by stopping along the way somewhere in the NC Mts. - Asheville, Chimney Rock, Murphy & a plethora of other towns all come to mind...

Have you driven the Blue Ridge Parkway? Not sure whether Peaks of Otter will have reopened by Memorial Day, but the lodge at Mt. Pisgah is open. Going north you'll pick up Shenandoah Parkway/Skyline Drive, which also has a lodge at Big Meadows. Both Parkways have plenty of trails.

@thursdaysd - been to Blueridge but haven't been to Pisgah...will try thanks!
