My Dad, brother and I took the train from Cleveland to Washington DC (Capitol Limited, I think). Bro and I stayed in a sleeper cabin and Dad had a couchette room across the aisle. This was back in 1996 or so. As I remember it, the "rooms" were expensive!! A tip, if you have a room make sure you draw the curtains at night when you sleep. I made the mistake of wanting to see out the window as I fell asleep (at night) and then train stopped in Pittsburgh station and the platform was crowded with people and I was almost naked laying there with the window shades up! Luckily I woke up and shut them quickly. Also, no shower in those rooms, just a sink and toilet. So you arrive at your destination hopeing to get to your hotel quickly to take a shower. Breakfast was nice. The train left Cleveland at 3:00 am and arrived in DC about 1:00pm. Also, if you are a smoker, you can only smoke in the first car after the engine so if it is a long train, the walk could be lengthy. Not sure what the smoking regulations are today, but my brother and Dad made many trips to the front.
The trip was OK for my first train ride. Now the only mode of transportation I have yet to experience is a cruise.
