My husband and I would like to take our second trip to Hawaii. On our honeymoon last September, we spent a week at the Hyatt in Kauai and a week at the Four Seasons in Maui. We absolutely loved both, although the Hyatt and Kauai was definitely our preference. We're planning to go back, but are considering whether we should visit a new island.

So, any recommendations on which would be the best island to visit? We'd have a week, and want to just go to one place and stay there. Any suggestions on best time of the year? Also looking for hotels, preferably under $300/night.

Try a different island.

Both Oahu (my favorite) & Big Island are nice.

Summer months have the best weather.

Winter months have the huge surf & whales. More whales December through end of March.

That being said, I think it depends on what you want to see and do. There's nothing wrong with going back to your favorite vacation spots, but if you want to see more historical spots like Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, and Bishop Museum; culture spots like the Academy of Arts and the Contemporary Museum; and shopping & dining like Aloha Tower Marketplace (also historical), Ala Moana, and even Waikiki....you should spend at least a few days on Oahu.

People will tell you it's like a big city, but they haven't seen the whole island.

As for best time of year....if you are not bound by work schedules or other obligations, September is not a bad choice either. That's when tourism kind of slows down (a little) so I think there may be more deals to be had. Also that is when the Aloha Festivals is in full swing, so you can really see the culture of Hawaii on display.
