Gasoline shortages And A Fall Trip
We are planning to to do a driving trip during the last week of Octoberthat will take us through Asheville NC, then down to Charleston SC and Savannah GA, before returning back through Atlanta and Chattanooga. I have been hearing about the current gasoline shortages that seem prevalent at least in the Asheville, Atlanta and Chattanooga areas of our trip, and have ot really seen anywhere about when these shortages might end Should we think about cancelling this trip and planing it for another time? Or might it be better, since Charleston and Savannah are the main focus of our trip, to just fly into that area and forget about making it a road trip? Or has anybody heard if the shortages might be over with by then?

Barring another major gulf storm, you should have no problems in late October. While it's still bad here, we are told things should be back to normal first week in Oct.

I live in the Atlanta area and heard that by the end of this week the shortage should be over! I certainly would not cancel your roadtrip! It is absolutely gorgeous during that time frame! Have you been to Savannah before?

Thanks for the reassurances. I have never been to Charleston or Savannah, though I have been to the others.

As others have reported, October should be fine. We just returned from weekend flying into RDU, driving to Burlington, NC. Not much gas around - were in Greensboro Friday evening and most gas stations closed and few that were open had lines of 20+ cars. Rental car guys at RDU were able to tell us which stations were open, but then people nearby returning cars reported that some of these had just run out of gas.
Son in Savannah says he is able to get gas. |
Just don't go below 1/2 tank and you should be fine.
Around here (Atlanta area) Quik Trips have gas when other stations do not. I'm not sure why their supply system is so much better, but if there's a problem check QT locations. |
If you'd like recommendations on restaurants or general info on Savannah please feel free to email me at [email protected]

They buy off spec gasoline where the mainstream stations do not. |
Gas price fell below $3 for the first time in a long time in Houston today
