Hi Jean
If you head down U.S.101 to Humboldt Co. (Home of the highest gas prices in the U.S) Today May 12, 2002 Regular gas is $1.81, mid level $1.91, and premium is going for $2.01! Fill you tank in Brooking Or., or even Crescent City Ca.
Have Fun
GP
Least expensive gas in Sunnyvale (south SF Bay area) is $1.49/gal. You may have to look around a bit to find it at this price.

San Jose...$1.55 this morning.

$1.35 - $1.40 in the Seattle area is about the best you'll find, most likely at Arco stations.

Note Oregon only has "mini-serve" meaning some human pumps your gas, but that's all.
|
$1.53 in Palo Alto a bit off the freeway.

Thanks, folks, you've all been very helpful. I had heard horror stories that gas was near $3 a gallon in some places in the west, so I'm feeling much better (we pay $1.39 a gallon here in North Alabama right now).

The web site mentioned above is neat to know about, too!

Jean

Paul: Thanks for the web-site for gas prices - that is very cool.

The worst price I've seen yet was along the drive through Mount Shasta. They were taking advantage of the fact that if you didn't fill up prior to the mountain drive, you were going to pay the price. Touristy places can obviosly get pretty pricey for gas. Just plan ahead and don't get taken advantage of.
