Gas prices on Maui/Kauai

I was thinking about getting a Costco membership just to get less-expensive gas at the Costco in Maui. Two questions: is it worth it, and is there a Costco on Kauai? If not worth it, any other suggestions?

Thanks!

It is not worth getting a Costco membership if all you are concerned about is saving $$ on gas. If you can use the card at home or online then it may be worth it.

Gas is about $.15-$.20 per gallon less at Costco.

If your total gas bill for both islands is $75, it will be about $70 at Costco.

So you'll save $5 or so on gas from Costco for your entire trip.

Don't concern yourself with the cost of gas in Hawaii compared to your location.

You'll probably spend $10-$15 more for gas in Hawaii for the same amount of driving as you would where you are at.

You'll probably spend $75-$100 for gas depending on how much driving you do.

we are Costco members and just was at the one in Kauai and got champagne and a fill up and gas was $3.35..not enough to get a membership but I am such a Costco fan..saved about $10 for that trip.
I find that they have some of the best fish prices, produce/cheese, prescription, gas, wine, gifts, tires, glasses and travel..so it pays off for us when we are on or off the islands.

Agree with ksucat, gas at Kaua`i Costco last week was $3.35 versus $3.39 at Shell in Kapaa. Hertz prepay was $3.30 (also not worth it, IMHO).

Thanks so much for all of the wise and quick responses. Since I live in Manhattan and can't use the card, no Costco membership for me!

Reply to Jel212, FYI, Costco has online catalog services that deliver to your door (but not P.O. Boxes) so you may not necessarily need to leave Manhattan, otherwise see www.costco.com for neighboring Queens, Brooklyn, & Jersey locations.

Costco will also reund a membership fee at any time, if you are dissatisfied.

Agree that even though you will want to drive around Kau`ai, you will likely not use much gasoline. The distances between places are short.

Just came back from Maui. The gas when I arrived in August was $3.51 a gallon and it was $3.71 a gallon when I left last week.
