Garden View in Hyatt or Ocean Front in Sheraton?

My fiance and I are having a hard time deciding on this one so I figured I would ask the experts.

On our budget we can either stay at the Hyatt, which I heard was beautiful all around (lagoon pool with bar service etc.)in a garden view room for about $450. Or for an additional $50 we can get Deluxe Ocean Front at the Sheraton. Are these two properties really that different? Is it worth it for me to sacrafice the room catagory that much just to be at the Hyatt?

Or I could really drive myself nuts and think about Hanalei Bay for under about $300 (I heard that is the rainy side of the island - is this true?)

Thank you for your help.

When are you going? That sounds really high for a garden view. We stayed at the Hyatt last April and the garden view wasn't that much. We upgraded after we arrived to an oceanview for $50.00 more per night. I think our average was about $350 per night. Sheraton has great location and we got a garden view on priceline for $140.00 per night for this April. Hyatt is great I just think you can get a better price.

Thanks WuWuWu! We are going this July/August for our honeymoon. I used the Hyatt website prices as a guide by room category (basic garden room is $425 - royal garden view is up to $495! Not sure what the difference is there but... I just quoted in the middle). Is it east to upgrade? I guess it all depends on availability. So, you think I should stay with the Hyatt?

Are you talking Hyatt/Sheraton on Maui or Kauai? I am running on the assumption you mean Kauai because you mention Hanalei Bay(which I would not do, the room quality tend to vary,do a search of this site for past posts regarding HB). The Hyatt Kauai wins hands down for me. The hotel itself has such a grand opulent feel, the pool is probably one of the best in all of Hawaii, it is really one of those things you can't believe. The rooms are so so, dark but the rooms at the Sheraton are no better or worse. The Sheraton sits on a stretch of gorgeous beach which is very swimmable and picturesque where the Hyatt Beach is called Shipwreck beach for a reason.(you really cannot swim here) but there are many gorgeous beaches within walking or driving distance including the Sheraton one.If a nice beach is mandetory and you do not care about anything else, go for the Sheraton. If you want to spoil yourself, do the Hyatt,is is in a very different class than the Sheraton. You will be sorry when you book the Sheraton, and then go take a peek at the Hyatt. (If I am totally wrong and you are talking about Maui then I can respond to that too, let me know!)

We had a garden view room at the Hyatt, and it was fine. They actually upgraded us to a junior suite when we got there (garden view). The Hyatt is a great hotel, and I'd stay there over the Sheraton. IMO, paying extra just for the view is usually not worth it, as you're not spending that much time in the room during daylight hours. I think you'll really like the Hyatt.

Great responses! Thank you so much! And I apologize for totally forgetting to mention which island I was referring to. Kauai is correct and it sounds like the Hyatt to me ; )Thanks again.

I would really say that the Hyatt is the
best of the two resorts. But I think that the rates sound really high. The
Hyatt site runs high. Have you tried
pricing your trip through Pleasant Holidays or Classic Custom Vacations ??
It seems you could do better.

Have a great time.

Ocean front Sheraton. Hyatt is overpriced for what you get. Rooms aren't that different really.

which island are you talking about? I think I may be thinking of the wrong island.
