Garden City Beach

Hi. We are going to Garden City Beach South Carolina. I would like to know if this is one of the more sedate beaches or if it is crowded. Last year we went to Cherry Grove. We loved it there but this year we found a condo big enough for all of us in Garden City. We are traveling with a group with the age range from 5-67. Any information will be great. Thanks so much LWC

Lwc,

I think you're going to love Garden City Beach. If anything, it is even a little less crowded, a little more laid back than Cherry Grove.

You're much closer to Murrells Inlet than you were in Cherry Grove, and closer to Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park, and closer to Pawleys Island, and even Georgetown. All of which means you'll have access to some great restaurants and scenery.

Here are a few restaurant suggestions for starters. Others will chime in.

Franks
Crickets
Flo's Place
Divine Fish House
Nances
Bistro 217
Louis's
Lattitude 22
River City Cafe
Orabosa's
River Room (in Georgetown)

Thanks so much. I am so ready to get back to the beach.

Lwc,

oops--I wrote River Room for Georgetown, but I meant the Rice Paddy. Nothing against River Room, it's good, but the Rice Paddy is special (more creative if you like that sort of thing).

Garden City and that area are very nice. Another good restaurant is Sara J.'s right on the GC causeway, and the Conch Cafe which is just about the only beachfront dining there is in that area.

Gretchen,

good call on Sara J.'s. I forgot about that one. We haven't visited the restaurant, but we had a sampling of their food at Taste of the Town, and it was really, really good.

A slightly different opinion ... I've gone to Cherry Grove once and Garden City at least 20 times, and I'd say there is a big difference between the two areas. Don't get me wrong, I love Garden City, but depending on the time you go, it can be very crowded on the beach. Favorite restaurant: Southern Suppers.

Have a good trip.

Where is Southern Suppers?

Budman Jan 24th, 2006 09:28 AM

It's a Seafood Buffet restaurant at 3043 Highway 17 Business in Garden City. ((b))

Thanks Budman - I was lost in my memories and assumed everyone knew where Southern Suppers was located :-)

Southern Suppers is a typical Myrtle Beach buffet but they include other items like beef stew, ribs, chicken, etc. on the buffet in addition to some great seafood.

I will have to say very respectfully that I will not go near it. We have gone to the MB area/calabash for 50 years, and family did it before that. The seafood buffets are a total disconnect. Crab legs on the SC coast--Puhleeze? Beef stew on a seafood buffet. Yes, you can get a lot to fill you up, if that is what you want. It ain't what the SC grand strand seafood used to be. But it sure is what "everyone" wants in an "all you can eat buffet". EAT IT UP. And it explains why we have never heard of it as a "nice place to eat" in the Garden City, Surfside, Murrells Inlet, Pawley's area. I had hoped it would add to our list.
