Galveston in November

Looking to stay in Galveston for 2 or 3 nights mid-November. Which do you recommend among the Tremont, Galvez and Harbor House? Usual weather in mid-November? How is the shelling on the beaches? Appreciate any tips and recommendations. Thanks!!

I'm from Houston and have stayed at all 3 of those hotels. Only the Galvez is on the beach, if that is important to you. Tremont is the nicest. It's a Victorian-very nicely done. Harbour House was on the "water" (harbour)but it was a little too musty for my tastes. Both of those hotels are in the Strand district where there are a lot of shops and eateries. I'd actually recommend the Moody Gardens Hotel. My daughter and I are going there again this weekend for a mother/daughter weekend. It is beautiful and the online rates are very reasonable.

Oh, I forgot - The weather in November is anybody's guess! It could be in the 80's or it could be in the 50's. Furthermore, it could vary from one day to the next. I'd guess high 60's but expect the extremes also. So don't pack until the day before. :)

You might also check out the San Luis - we've stayed there, and it's a nice property with ocean views.

I poked around on a weather website, and it gave an average high of 71 and an average low of 59 - most likely jacket weather, but as agswimmer said, you never know - sometimes we're wearing shorts at Christmas, and sometime we have our coats out!

My husband and I stayed at the Tremont last summer and were pleased. You don't say what your situation is--kids? Romantic getaway?

Anyway, this hotel is near the strand if you are into shopping. It is not on the beach and not in walking distance, but it's a short drive. The rooms are very nice, but I wouldn't think of this as a family hotel.

November in Texas will be mild, but maybe rainy. November is also in late hurricane season, so watch out for that.

Even if you don't stay there, do spend a day at Moody Gardens - it's really neat - rainforest pyramid, aquarium, IMAX, etc. Very nice for when the weather is cooler.

Why are you going?

The Tremont is in the historic, Victorian Strand and will be decorated for "Dickins on the Strand". Great if you're into shopping.

The Galvez is across the sea wall (the street) from the beach. If you're going for the beach and recreation, I'd suggest the Galvez.

You may even want to consider renting a beach house. You won't have the hotel services, but yo'll have much of the beach to yourself.
