Galveston
 

Will be visiting Galveston in the next few weeks. Any ideas on what to do and a place to stay on the beach.

There are a lot of family friendly activities in Galveston besides going to the beach. Moody Gardens has a rain forest pyramid, an aquarium, a thrill-ride, an Imax theater and a white sand beach. You can also take a paddle-wheeler from here that tours Galveston Bay.

Sea Wolf Park has an old submarine that you can climb inside and explore, and also another Navy vessel that is open to the public (for a fee).

For free fun, the ferry going to the Bolivar peninsula is great! Sometimes the line to get on the ferries can be long, so go early.

There's a water park called Schlitterbahn, several mini-golf courses, water bumper boats, a maze, beach volley ball (all at Stewart beach), and bike/buggy rental along the seawall.

All hotels/motels along the seawall are across the street from the beach with the exception of the Sandpiper, a small motel close to Stewart Beach, and Seascapes, located at the far end of the seawall. I like to stay at the Casa Del Mar when I take my grandkids. There are bunkbeds in the hall, the couch pulls out to a sleeper, and there's a separate bedroom for myself and husband. There's a small kitchen with stove, microwave, sink, refrigerator and all the dishes, silverware, etc. There are two swimming pools on the property, and grills and picnic tables for the guests to use.

How has I missed the maze at Stewart Beach? Please tell more..

The maze is a wooden structure with a platform on top for someone to stand on and oversee the people inside. I think it's called the Amazing Human Maze. I've never gone inside, but I think kids would like it.
