Gaige House Inn or Farmhouse Inn?
 

We will be spending 3 days in March in the countryside north of San Francisco, and I have narrowed our loding search to either the Gaige House Inn or the Farmhouse Inn. At either place we will be staying in the lower priced rooms (about $200). Does anyone have any comments or opinions on these choices?? I've seen comments posted that the Farmhouse Inn can have lots of noise from the highway at night- has anyone experienced this? Thanks for your help.

Even if you don't decide to stay at the Farmhouse Inn, you must have dinner there, it's fantastic! I like the property set-up, but I would request a room in the back of the property. ***kim*** ((l)) www.farmhouseinn.com

Thanks Kim, we will have a dinner at the FH Inn. I have a new twist- has anyone stayed at the Healdsburg Inn? I believe it opened late last year, and I cannot find any reviews on it. It sounds nice, and the prices are very reasonable, and I really like the Healdsburg location. Any help??

I've walked past the Healdburg Inn many times (I think it's the one on the south side of the square, not the huge luxury Hotel Heldsburg on the west side??). It's been there quite a while - perhaps it has new owners.

I would much rathar stay in Healdsburg, than at the Gaige house (don't know where the Farmhouse is located). I've driven by the Gaige house dozens of times. It is a little too remote for my tastes. Healdsburg is a fun town. Lots of great restaurants, shops, coffee places, etc. Dry Creek Valley is my favorite wine growing region.

I agreee with Stu on the Healdsburg Inn,
(Now jorda you must know that Stu is up here quite often and gives excellent advise on the area as well !)

Anywho,
I vote for the Healdsburg Inn of the 3.
The location is terrific and it is now a Four Sisters branded Inn which is a
VG thing.

For wine tasting in/near Healdsburg,
I would add a few from the Westside
Road in the Healdsburg/Russian River
Valley:
<b>Roshambo</b>-very cool,very modern
<b>Hop Kiln</b>-historic bldg.,try the Valdiguie if they are pouring it
<b>Rochiolli</b>-divine Sauvignon Blanc,
breathtaking views
<b>Gary Farrell</b>-everything he makes is good, excellent 2002 Pinot Noir.

Stu has some faves in Dry Creek he should tell you about:
<b>Lambert Bridge</b> anything red, excellent reds.
<b>Nalle</b>VG Zin, call ahead to see if they are open.

*SPECIAL NOTE*
Access to the Alexander Valley (scenic Hwy 128) via Geyserville is closed due to a Russian River bridge washout from our New Year's flood. The bridge is not expected to be repaired until June '06 (earliest)
The detour to the Valley is
off HWY 101 at Alexander Valley road
over to Jimtown. The Jimtown store is a
must do for lunch!

Stu and Razzledazzle, thanks for the time you spend doling out your pearls of wisdom! Healdsburg it is. We're really looking forward to the trip and all the good food- also thanks for the info on the bridge washout. We were wondering if all of the rain has affected other things in the area. Yes, The Healdsburg Inn was purchased by the 4 Sisters group, and renovated in August of '05, and the rooms look very nice. We're opting for the Cottage for a little more privacy. Thanks again for all of the suggestions.

The Farmhouse Inn is located in Forestville. Healdsburg is a terrific choice, we loved our stay at the Hotel Healdsburg. ***kim*** ((l))
