Gadsbys Tavern

Are reservations needed for dinner on Saturday night?

Are you talking about the restaurant in Alexandria, VA? Why don't you call and ask them.

Yes, it is in Alexandria, VA. Just thought I'd get someone who had been there recently who would know. The last time I called a restaurant, who said reservations were required, and then went there, 50% of their tables open. And no, they did not fill up. So, I don't necessarily believe it when the restaurant tells me they need reservations.

I've gone without reservations, but not in the summer. If the weather is nice you will probably have a hard time getting a seat on their outside patio. And when there are a lot of tourists in town, it will likely be pretty crowded. If you don't mind waiting for a table, you could chance it, but if you know when you are going, I'd make reservations to be safe.

Not to hijack this thread but what's wrong with making a reservation even if you do find out later when you show up that the restaurant has some empty tables?

At least YOU know you'll have a table and if it turned out the restaurant was very crowded that night YOU will still have a table. The way I see it that's a win/win situation since the alternative when not making a reservation is no table available.

I agree with RoamsAround - better to say "Gee, I guess we didn't need a reservation" than "Gee, we should have made reservations".
