furniture shoppping
We are leaving atlanta eventually returning to detroit via Asheville. We want to furniture shop and so I am interested if hickory or north point would be a better choice. Are the showrooms opened weekends?northern lady

I have not been there but I believe that there are two or three towns that have huge inventories to view near the manufacturing vendors. High Point NC is one. Google N.C. furniture direct. One is Rose and the other is Furnitureland that I have used. Rose gets good reviews- but there are many others.

Karen, I suggest you search "North Carolina Furniture" in the search function. There have been some amazingly long and detailed posts on this subject, with specifics of what to do, where to go, and what to look out for. I assure you that you will find more information that way, then the possible few additional posts you will get here -- some of those other threads have been added on to for over a year.

We purchased an entire housefull of furniture from Furnitureland South in High Point (over 1 million sq.ft. of furniture displays - check out their web-site). If I recall correctly we spent 4 days (Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon) picking out furniture. They assigned us an interior designer to help show us around and coordinate fabrics, colors, etc. There are scores of other furniture showrooms along the Greensboro/Kannapolis corridor. You can find just about any piece ostyle or manufacturer of furniture you can imagine.

Is Furniture Land now open Sundays? Used to be closed on "The Lord's Day." Also when I was looking for furniture, they didn't take credit cards. Huge place, and a huge place next door when they outgrew original building.
I ended up buying at Rose Brothers. By the end of looking at about every piece of furniture even thought of by designers, I was worn out. Furniture market starts soon so stay away from High Point during that. I haven't been to Hickory, so I can't comment on the stores. |
High Point Furniture Market was this past week. It will now be over.

I just check my "old" calendar (hard to believe it will be 3 years ago in May - where does the time go?) and it looks like our buying trip was from Thursday thru Sunday. That means we actually were traveling home on Sunday so OP's are probably correct that FLS is closed on Sundays. Sorry for the mis-information. Huge place though and like ncgrrl we were completely worn out. No credit cards accepted which was a bummer when you consider all the FF miles we missed out on. A humorous side note - the first morning our designer suggested we pick out mattresses and box springs first on the theory that if we waited until the end of our buying spree we'd be so exhausted even a matrees made of lead would feel comfortable. She couldn't have been more right.
