Fun road stop for kids off I-75 near Atlanta, Macon

We're looking for a interesting stop to break up an 8 hr drive from Florida to Tennesse the first week of June, 2010. I know there's a lot to do in Atlanta, but we only want to take an hour or two at the most, so that leaves out the Aquarium and bigger attractions. Anyone have any good ideas for something fun, preferably close to I-75? We'll be traveling with two 13 years olds and a 9 year old. Appreciate any input!

Look at Stone Mountain Park. Not sure how close to 75 it is but pick 1 attraction.

If you're only wanting to spend an hour or two, I would not go to Stone Mountain; I think it's too far out of the way. Maybe stop at the Varsity (an Atlanta institution -- hamburger restaurant) in downtown Atlanta for lunch? Or you could walk through Centennial Park, or stop in Atlantic Station for lunch. All of these are right by the interstate, so it wouldn't take you much time to get there from I-75.

I agree with Samsaf that Stone Mountain is way too far. You say you only have "an hour or two at the most" and it will take you two hours just to get there and back from I-75, with no time to see anything.

Depending on what time of day it is, stopping at Centennial Olympic Park downtown might work. The kids can see the Olympic Rings Fountain, and it's adjacent to CNN Center, which has a food court. On the other side of the park is the World of Coca-Cola, where you could visit if you had more time.

Centennial Park sounds like it will be just what we need for a bit of a break, along with a little history. We will stop mid-morning to noonish to get let off steam and catch an early lunch. I was thinking of possibly stopping at Stone Mountain on the way home and spending the night nearby. Thank for the suggestions everyone.
