When we visited, we did the touristy things, but we really liked the Hard Rock Cafe and there is also that WWF or now WWE I guess, restaurant in times square as well, oh and a Planet Hollwood.

ESPN zone in Times Sqaure has all sorts of sports games to watch on TV and you can go to the upstairs and play games as well (there's even a "hockey" game where you try to hit a bunch of pucks into a goal, and it has a mechanic goalie trying to stop you)... its a chain, and so the food is chain-quality (good but nothing special).. but lots of fun!!

Ruby Foo's- Pan-Asian cuisine with killer drinks and a really upbeat atmosphere.
Casa- Really great Brazilian food, amazing caipirinhas, and a very casual, homey vibe.
If you don't care too much about the food quality Carmine's is a family style Italian, very loud and boisterous.
Also, Puglia's in Little Italy. My boyfriend's fraternity foten holds parties there. They have a singer at dinner times, and a real rotgut house wine. When you finish dinner, you're in a good are for lounge-bars.
You can find all of the addresses at zagats.com. I think they even have a search option "hot places for 20 somethings".

La Mela in little Italy.

Good food served family style, flowing wine, boisterous, energetic crowd, visiting troubadours, and glowing, R rated sculptures hanging from the ceiling.

It's a fun place!

One other idea is Churuscaria (sp?) a Brazillian barbeques in the west 50s, I believe.

It's a meat eaters paradise, with the most exotic salad bar (that is a possible oxymoron, but you get the drift) you'll ever see.

John's Pizza on W 44th Street between 7th and 8th (near Times Square)! It's in an old church and has very good brick oven pizza.

gc is referring to churascarria plataforma just west of teh theatre district. Very fun. Also similar is Riodizio on Lafayette which is in a trendier downtown neighborhood. Same concept tho regarding the food.
