Jocelyn: I'm with you here! A question about Portland hotels garnering 100+ responses!!!!????
Catherine: I just stayed at the Hilton Garden Suites this October because my friend wanted to see another friend in Beaverton. Beaverton and nearby Hillsboro is the "hi tech" center of Portland. Now everyone will know why San Jose, CA, and environs is kind of blahsville. The Hilton GI has good prices on Priceline, but the fun part was the restaurant across the street called Elmer's. We had a marvellous conversation with the waiter who was from an East Europe country. Just to add to the confusion: my recommendation is to remain at the Hilton, dine at Elmer's and skip downtown Portland altogether. You will be most welcome NOT to take my recommendation. LOL! Kal: you been hitting that limoncello again??? |
GOOD GRIEF!! I leave you children alone on a thread for 3 pitiful days and just LOOK what happens!
If Catherine has not run screaming from the room and canceled all future trips to Portland I would be greatly surprised. Is there a full moon or something I don't know about? Did someone forget to renew their prescription? I am sitting here shaking my head trying to stop laughing. And before anyone decides to jump all over ME, I've been to Portland more times than I can count, but have almost always stayed with friends. I've spent a couple of nights at the Heathman, and it was very nice and excellent location, but that was more than 10 years ago. |
Yeah, this thread did take a pretty nasty turn, didn't it? But Marilyn, I don't know why that should discourage catherine from visiting Portland. There are only a couple posters to this thread who actually live here; and we've stayed out of the fray.

b'bum,
Fray? More like WWF Smackdown. :(( E'trav, :$ No. This early it's Bailey's Coffee. |
I don't know, beachbum, after a thread like this the very name "Portland" might make me break out in hives.
(Seriously, it is one of my very favorite US cities and every time I'm there I think what a great place it is to live.) |
Kal: Oh, good! Glad to hear it's only coffee. That's Bailey's Irish Coffee, right? :S-
|
(having trouble posting again!! Drat!)
Marilyn: Welcome back! We need your good sensible posts!!!! Was you in Portland by any chance? :) |
I was sort of in computer hell. I think there must have been some server problems in the Bay Area. Every page took 10 minutes to load, if it did load at all. Lasted for several days, during which only the most CRITICAL of threads was read by me. Who knew this one had gone off the rails so berserkly? (a real word?) :-D

To those who believe in reincarnation: do you think the San Jose Weirdo came back as Kimamnon?
Faina Borg. |
anyone remember the book & film, marathon man? is it safe??
|
FainaAgain, Come on now, what would you do without *kim* to bash? She/he is a source of good information and great fun. A free spirt. A lover of luxury. What could be bad?
|
jimjim,"what can be bad?" let her call you muffin! see how you like that :(
And what about Pup?? Now he has this complex about drool !! ((&)) LOL I think some of us take this advice giving too seriously. It is not just advice offered along with the rest of Fodorville, it is as if a person is grabbing you by the neck and forcing you to take their recommendation or else! :D |
Well Scarlett darlin, you just send Pup to me and he can drool all over the place! Like some slobs that stay in hotel rooms are not more disgusting than some beautiful dog. :-?
|
Dearest Scarlett, what if I call you "muffin eater" will you feel better?
1,000 smooches :* |
Good grief, I do a search for Portland for an upcoming trip and this is the first thread I find! Didn't learn much about Portland but thanks for the chuckles!
Kim honey, you really need to get off line (and maybe off the sauce) and get a life. And maybe see a therapist and find out why you're so angry and must have your own way on an internet forum with strangers!? Oh and BTW after all that the river place is the the last place I'd stay now. |
Children Please! Can't we all just get along? So much information. We won't be around Portland to do much more than fence. We get to Portland about noon and have to be at OFA by five for 2 1/2 hours of lesson/practice bouts. Then we're up early for tournaments starting at nine o'clock am. I love the area and will most definitely use some of this informatin when we bring the rest of the family though. Kimamom - the Hilton's restaurant was a disappointment, but we loved the jacuzzi in our room. It's quiet, the beds are firm but not too much so. By the way, does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the Avalon? I can get a really good deal through one of the web discount sites. Thanks again everyone. Now you kids play nice, all right?
|
Well, I know someone else who should be going to bed! Sorry I don't know anything about the Avalon. Catherine, did you see Kinammom's recent post about the Hotel Lucia? She started a new thread to try to get past all this. I looked at the website and it sounds really fun. G'night!
