I second Cheriberry's advice (the Beachcomber she refers to is a very casual beach bar in Wellfleet and is lots of fun).
Some other thoughts: 1. Be sure to check out a Bay beach at low tide. If you've never seen Cape Cod Bay at low tide, you're in for a treat/surprise. You will be able to walk out for a mile of so! 2. The most beautiful, although not long, hike is Fort Hill in Eastham. A definite MUST. Beautiful views of the ocean and also a marsh walk. 3. Provincetown bike trail is fabulous. Definitely go there. 4. Ride your bikes into Orleans one day and have lunch at Land Ho! 5. The Great Island walk in Wellfleet is several miles and quite pretty. You have to be careful of the tides when you do it. Some of it is underwater at certain times. But if you are looking for a long hike, that's the one to do. Have fun! |
A word of caution - most beaches (?all) have dog restrictions during summer months. So if your dogs like to splash in the ocean, they may be disappointed.

Rent bikes at Dennis and ride the Cape Cod Rail Trail - this is a great trail.
One of my favorite hikes is the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp (if this isn't the exact name, it's close). There are also nice hiking trails around Nauset Marsh. My favorite beach on Cape Cod Bay is Mayflower near Dennis. And definitely see the huge dunes along the national seashore. |
Sunset at Rock Harbor.

First stop at the Information Booth (on right about two miles after the rotary) and pick up a copy of the Chamber of Commerce guide. Lots of great info there and a list of all the trails.
Catch a double feature at the Wellfleet Drive-In. Flea market there during the week. Fried seafood or lobster (great burgers too) at Arnold's Restaurant. If you are here for the Fourth, go to First Encounter to watch the fireworks over Rock Harbor on Saturday night. Dune buggy ride at Art's in Provincetown. Whale watch trip from McMillin wharf. Climb to the top of the P-town monument (tallest all granite building in US). P-town fireworks on Monday night. You can rent bikes in Eastham at the Idle Times bike shop. Go to a baseball game in Orleans. Many pro players played in the Cape Baseball League. Wear lots of sunblock and have a great time!! |
