Fun in South Beach in May

Hi,

My husband and I will be in SoBe for 3 days in May, the 19th-21st so Wednesday through Friday, leaving Saturday afternoon. Other than the beach, what are things we should see and do in that short amount of time? We definitley want to go out at night but are not 21 and uber hip. We are both 35 and attractive and dress hip enough, but I don't want to feel completely out of place. Are there any places to go at night that might work for us? We are staying on Ocean Drive and plan on walking or taking a cab. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Heidi, 30s to 40s is a good age bracket for South Beach.

Fun: Nikki Beach, Delano, Sky Bar, Crobar, Level, Prive, B.E.D., The Hotel pool bar, and much more.
The Clevelander and Wet Willies for earlier fun.

If you do a search for South Beach, you'll find a lot of fun things.

Tumi, Wish, and the Forge get recommended a lot but are expensive. The News Cafe for more reasonable fare. I know there are others but can't remember.

Forgot to add, don't let South Beach intimidate you. Unless you are there for fashion week or Hip Hop Week, it isn't all supermodels walking around.

I would set some time aside for a tour of the Art Deco District itself. The center for the Miami Design Preservation League is across the street from the Edison Hotel (Ocean and 10th), and you can get info there. The architecture and history are fun, IMHO.

The nightlife in South Beach goes all over the map. You should definitely head up to the Delano for a sip at their lobby bar. SkyBar (the LA club) has its outpost at the Shore Club. Nikki's Beach Club, Opium Garden, Privé, B.E.D., Tantra-- all with a different vibe. The concierge at your hotel will be able to hook you up with VIP passes or spots on the guest list. Some clubs have European-style table service-- expensive, but sometimes a cool way to feel like a big-shot.

Thank you both, I appreciate your help. What do people typically wear out at night? Dresses or skirts?

GoTravel Mar 30th, 2004 03:45 PM

Wear whatever you are comfortable wearing but make sure it is sexy.

South Beach is a sexy place. Doesn't mean you have to let it all hang out but make sure YOU feel sexy wearing it.

Sounds good, thanks!
