Fun city in US for bachelorette party

Any suggestions for a fun city that is maybe 3-4 hrs max. flight from NYC?
We are most likely going in August/September.

We are 45 min's away from NYC & 2hrs. away from Boston, so those city's are out because we have been so many times.

Vegas is too far to go for only 3 night's.
Miami is great- but it's $$.

We are in our 30's- ready for some dancing, good food, relaxing by poolside during day, shopping...and would love a place where it's easy to walk from bar to bar.

Thanks in advance for your advice! S.

I've been to Vegas several times for just 2 nights, and that's flying from Tennessee with layovers in Cleveland, Dallas, or Atlanta. I know you could get a direct flight from NYC, so 3 nights would be perfect. With the shopping, clubs, restaurants, gambling, and other general debauchery that it has to offer, Vegas would be a blast for a 30-something bachelorette party!

San Antonio? Chicago? Ft. Lauderdale? Orlando?

Don't count Miami out. That time of year you can find good deals. Check flying into Fort Lauderdale airport. I think Delta Song and Jet Blue both have good deals from NYC.

Key West?

I know you said Vegas is too far, but my vote is Vegas. 3 nights isn't too short.... it isn't like you sleep when you're there.

If you want a more refined, genteel weekend with the girls, then maybe Savannah? Although, it would be hot in August.

I would reconsider Miami, it's certainly no more expensive than Boston or NYC. You could even snatch a posh South Beach hotel at off-season rates. It's got everything you're asking for - in abundance.

Other 3-4 hour ideas: Montreal?, Chicago?, DC?

You guys are all welcome at my place :)

Thanks for all of your suggestions.
Have any of you been to Austin, TX.?
Was thinking about there maybe.

As for Florida in August/Sept- I'm just worried about hurricane season!
My girlfriends too me to Orlando last year for my b-ette, so I was thinking of something a little different.

I wouldn't want to go to Florida in August. How about Montreal? Chicago's great, too, very easy to get around by foot or cab.

MerryTravel Jan 20th, 2006 08:15 AM

Chicago? I don't know how many of the hotels have pools, but it's still beach weather in August.

LLindaC Jan 20th, 2006 10:07 AM

Actually, several hotels have rooftop pools and remember, there is a beach and park on Lake Michigan!

I think all of these have been mentioned but Key West, Montreal, New Orleans, Vegas will be cheap, & hot. What about Quebec City ?

Austin is on my "to do" list as it looks like a really fun city. But in August???? No thanks! Average high temps for August and September are over 90 degrees.

I'll put in another suggestion for Chicago. Lots of fun neighborhoods with all the shopping, dining and bars you could want. A lot of young people head to Chicago to live after college and settle there, so it's a lively town. Beaches are great, along with the pools mentioned before. And it's under 2 hours from NYC by air with plenty of direct flights daily. You can also get good hotel rates in the summer.

I'm going to a bachelorette party in Chicago in May. But, what about Memphis? I really enjoy that city and I've always had fun while there.

I agree, Austin in Aug-Sept could be brutal. We had some of our hottest days of the year last year late Sept (108). However, if you do decide on Austin, Jet Blue just started non-stop flights from JFK to Austin the other day! You might consider mid September and go to the ACL Music Fest as well. www.aclfest.org

Las Vegas is only about a 4 hour flight from NYC, and you gain three hours of fun time on that first day! You could even leave the night before, 8pm out of NYC is in Vegas by 9:30pm. PARTY!

Vegas has really low room rates late August and early September. But it is HOT out by the pool!
