Ft. Myers to Ft. Lauderdate

How long would it take to drive from Ft. Myers to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and what would be the best route?

Allow two and a half to three hours to be safe (from central Ft. Myers to central Ft. Lauderdale). Just go out of Ft. Myers to I-75, go south (towards Naples it will say) and keep going until you approach Ft. Lauderdale. After you exit by the toll booth (there is a one way toll of $1.50) keep watching for signs toward Ft. Lauderdale. Depending on exactly where you are going, you will probably want to take I-595 towards the airport and Port Everglades, actually staying on it until it ends at the above two locations and then take US 1 north into Ft. Lauderdale. If you are going out to the beaches, you'll want to turn right on 17th Street S.E. And note that I have seen more police stopping speeders on the I-595 into Ft. Lauderdale than anywhere else I've ever been, although the traffic is usually so heavy, I've never understood how all these people were speeding.
