Wanna bet if he or she does? Ah, the young. Doesn't make ANY difference to them because they "don't get sick" and that our economy is going to totally tank IF people do not follow the rules about masks and gathering. That restaurant you used to love? Don't bet on it being there.

frenchtoile Aug 3rd, 2020 07:45 AM

I'm probably late on this. I think everything was closed due to the tropical storm. We were there earlier this month and it was fine. The shaming of traveling from others on some of these conversations is ridiculous. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale. It was in the evening and the airport was a ghost town. When we flew out a week later restaurants were finally opening. I for one have never felt better about traveling.

Gretchen Aug 4th, 2020 03:13 AM

Again, just so for curiosity and so we will get an idea of the level of cooperation in trying to get our country under control. Do you wear a mask and social distance?

schmerl Aug 4th, 2020 05:12 AM

frenchtoile...Did you self quarantine when you returned to your home?

mlgb Aug 4th, 2020 06:06 AM

I read that Broward was going to impose an 11 pm curfew, and that the Sheriff was going to enforce the ban on large house parties.

A lot of that "we're going to enforce" never happens, though.

frenchtoile Aug 4th, 2020 08:03 AM

YEP did quarantine when we got home. Wore masks on plane. Went out to eat every night. Went to the beach. It was wonderful. Once we got to Florida everything the media had been saying seemed so far from what we were seeing in person. Beaches were not packed. People had masks on. People were following the rules. When you are in the airport and on the plane they remind you to wear a mask. Go out and travel people. Stop sitting on a board reading about it and judging.....if you don't feel comfortable why are you on these posts? All you are doing is passing judgment. People have to travel for work again. Some to see family. Everyone has a reason. Once we traveled on the plane we were ready to do it again. I wish that travel would remain like this on some levels. There isn't the rushing thru the airports. People are kinder to one another. The planes boarding is faster. Flying is faster! The plane is so clean. Room to yourself. It's probably one of the best times ever to travel!

I live in Fl and no one wants us in their state. I had to cancel two trips already. If only as easy as you say. I want this to be over and staying home right now is the only way we will be allowed back into the places I want to travel. I don't have two weeks to fly to NY, stay in a hotel quarantining, and then visit family. Fly back to Fl and quarantine which is the rule for FL. You come in from NY, NJ or CT you must quarantine.

frenchtoile Aug 4th, 2020 09:20 AM

Macross I feel for you living in FL. But, I also think the media is making it sound like a completely different situation than what is going on. We went to the beach one morning....walked down the beach to get away from anyone (everyone was distancing.) When we turned to look down the beach it looked packed. It wasn't though!

Except for that pesky global pandemic.
And hurricane.

There wasn't a hurricane when we went. And yes it is the best time to travel when people like you are staying home. I think most of you are just upset that you are not traveling. Again if you are so against it why are you even on these forums. It's weird. All you want to do is come and fight with people and tell them how wrong they are and how right you are. We traveled. We have not had Covid. We came home and didn't go around anyone for 15 days. We are healthy. We wear our masks when we are supposed to and distance. Glad we did the trip and would and will do it again.

Macross Aug 4th, 2020 02:28 PM

I still work with high risk clients so am told by my work to be careful. I have so many travel credits now and vouchers that sure hope this pandemic gets over so I can use them. I missed a three country trip in May and June and two other trips in March and next week. I still come here because I mostly just go to the lounge but the fact that the post was about my home state caught my eye. My beach is open but 12 to 8. Hottest time of the day to discourage people from coming. Most of the locals are early morning beachgoers. My local has opened and closed and opened and closed. Now back open but a little crowded for me. My yoga studio is closed. We were just talking about renting a beach house at St Augustine beach in October. It is a dog beach so we can take the dog and bring food to cook. See how our brain thinks? I am not comfortable eating inside with others. My family owns a restaurant in NY and they aren't doing any inside dining. Still take out. I had booked Jet Blue and bought more room seat up front for space but not allowed to fly into NY so credit. I would love a Maine or Vermont trip but they don't want us.

This is what the OP of this thread said -
"Hi!
guys I am at ft.Lauderdale now and everything I wanted to do is closed.
ill take any tips on what to do and where to eat.

please help."

You have an interesting theory = "
I think most of you are just upset that you are not traveling."

Although I would like to travel, I'm not during a global pandemic. And I have driven into a hurricane in Florida but I was in my 20s and we had a condo rented. Happy that I survived and no need to do that again.

So your jealous/ mad/ upset theory may make sense to you but that doesn't mean it's accurate.

Gretchen Aug 5th, 2020 04:56 AM

people like you are staying home. I think most of you are just upset that you are not travelin

Let's see, did someone mention "judgemental" somewhere. Well, no I am not upset about not travelling because I am in a retirement community and myself at high risk. BUT I am upset about not having hugged my grandchildren and children and friends for 5 months. And I am concerned about my son's family getting on a plane to come to a beach week with us that I am just unwilling to postpone again.
OUr son in law's restaurants have been indelibly hurt because of the rule breakers--the restaurants and bars that WON"T social distance and limit capacity as they do in theirs. So now, they have to close at 11--I am glad that you DID follow the rules. Good for you. We haven't heard whether the OP did or not which may be an answer in itself.

mlgb Aug 5th, 2020 05:51 AM

Maybe the OP lost power since she I think she is in New Jersey where Isaias went after it grazed Fla.

I'm glad to hear that frenchtoile followed all the rules. We all have seen people who don't so it's a little frustrating if you live in a place where cases have exploded.

How did we not follow the rules??? The airlines were running. We wore masks. We distanced. Florida nor the state I live in didn't allow us to travel between the states. And when we came home we quarantined for 15 days to be safe. Something that my state didn't require either. We are all healthy. We didn't spread Covid or bring it home. Again why are you all on these boards to give advice if all you have to say are nasty comments. We didn't do anything wrong.

MmePerdu Aug 5th, 2020 09:18 AM

mlgb: "I'm glad to hear that frenchtoile followed all the rules."

frenchtoile: "How did we not follow the rules???"

WHAT? Someone need new glasses?

Not sure how useful a thread like this is with the stay-at-homers butting heads with the pandemic-travelers & no one convincing the other of anything. No one in charge, everyone who doesn't get the drift just going their own way.

Meanwhile, Gretchen is "concerned about my son's family getting on a plane to come to a beach week with us that I am just unwilling to postpone again." "Beach?" "Unwilling?" In a nutshell.

HappyTrvlr Aug 5th, 2020 11:52 AM

This is not a time to travel for pleasure!

Gretchen Aug 5th, 2020 12:05 PM

Well, I did not go in June when the family went. And as far as I know now, I will go. It isn't a hotel--it is our own condo and we will drive. Up until the week I leave, I may cancel my husband and I going. Our kids will be there anyway, as some were in June. We probably will not leave the condo with the kids doing the shopping. It's a gated community so the beach is uncrowded. We can distance. We are old--we need to take the opportunities to be with family as they come if in this environment we can be safe enough. I will probably even hug my children and grandchildren.
When we return we will quarantine for 14 days which isn't really any different from what we are doing now at our retirement community.
DS and wife are going to fly. Their college age daughter refuses to get on an airplane. Everyone is free to make decisions, but it IS important to wear a mask, social distance, and wash your hands.

And yes, Frenchtoile seems to have taken offense at something that wasn't said. As I said previously, good for them for following the rules.

I 'think' a few nastier posts were deleted and edited - I assume those are the ones that offended the OP . . .

mlgb Aug 5th, 2020 01:46 PM

Frenchtoile quoted my post in responding in a nasty manner. That is exactly what I wrote, thanking her for following rules. Nothing in my post was deleted.

FT apparently has a comprehension problem, or needs new glasses.
