Ft. Lauderdale/Max's Beach Place Restaurant
 

Spending one night in Ft. Lauderdale. Has anyone dined at Max's Beach Place?

I haven't dined there, but really enjoy Bimini Boatyard off 17th Street Causeway - very good! Also for a good morning breakfast for coffee, fruit, granola, ect, (I forget the name) but it is right on the beach - can people watch over your breakfast, and it is before Los Olas Blvd (heading NOrth) Table out on the sidewalk.

Have not been to Max's Beach Place, but have been to a couple of their previous restaurants and they are wonderful. I'm not sure what you're looking for, but be aware that Bimini Boathouse is not as upscale as most of the Max restaurants are. It's really a very casual (expect lots of shorts and t-shirts -- big noisy bar crowd) and very casual eating -- almost like a Florida version of a TGI Fridays, although the atmosphere is nicer. Lots of pizzas, sandwiches, lighter entrees, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love it, especially for lunch. Not sure if they take reservations, but there is usually quite a wait at the bar -- which seems to be part of the "ambiance".

Patrick, <BR> <BR>We are unfamiliar re: Max restaurants. <BR>The Pillars has reciprical w/Max's Beach Place: our dinner can be sent to hotel and we can dine either on our balcony or the private beach. <BR>While we prefer casual (i.e. no jacket/tie for my husband) we would surely prefer something more than a TGI Friday's dinner. Any/all suggestions will be appreciated.

Sorry I don't know where the Pillars is. Can you fill me in? And maybe I'm overdoing it a bit comparing Bimini to a Friday's, but it's certainly not walking distance from anywhere on the beach anyway. To my knowledge there's not a place in all of Ft. Lauderdale that calls for jacket and tie, casual elegance is much more the norm. My very favorite restaurant in Lauderdale (in all of Florida, actually) is Mark's Las Olas, on Las Olas Blvd, so you would probably need a taxi. It's one of the top restaurants in the country actually, and fairly pricey, (appetizers $9-15 and entrees about $17 to $30) but casual and contemporary elegance reigns.
