Ft Lauderdale budget Accommodations

I'm a single person looking for a budget accommodation, hopefully under $60 a night in the Ft Lauderdale area and anything further north up to West Palm Beach. I don't need anything fancy, just clean and safe. Perhaps a small hotel, near the beach. I don't mind a bit of a walk.
Has anyone stayed at any places registered with 'Superior Small Lodgings"?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check out the Frommers website Frommers.com as they have a budget travel section and you should be able to get some good recommendations.

kodi-You might want to check out Pompano Beach. There are several Mom & Pop Hotels right on the beach which are AAA rated, clean and safe. We stayed at Sea Castle one year and it was fine.

kodi:

I'd suggest staying @ Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL (5 miles north of Ft. L.). It is a small town that lies on a peninsula off of Ft. Lauderdale. I stayed at Coral Key Inn (coralkeyinn.com) a superior lodging hotel, it was nice. It is located right across the street from the oceanIt is $59/night off season for a suite with Murphy's Bed (folds into ceiling during day, with a full kitchen. Another motel I would suggest in town I mentioned is Blue Seas Courtyard.
