The plan now is:

19 - 23 July New York
23 to Lancaster/ Gettysburg
24 Washington
25 Washington
26 Shenendoah NP
27 Shenendoah NP
28 Great Smokey Mountains
29 Great Smokey Mountains
30 Great Smokey Mountains
31 ???
1 ???
2 ???
3 ???
4 ???
5 Orlando
6 Orlando/Disney
7 West Coast Florida
8 West Coast Florida
9 West Coast Florida
10 West Coast Florida
11 West Coast Florida
12 West Coast Florida
13 Fly back to NY and then home late in the evening.

1. Where is the best place to stay in the Great Smokey Mountians. We prefer a cabine or something like that near or in the mountains.
2. What is nice to do after the Great Sm.Mountains. We have a couple of days before we drive to Orlando.
3. A nice hotel at the West Coast. Or what is the most nice town to go to. We want to relax some days before we go home.
And all other tips are ofcourse welcome.

Thanks Elma

So you're driving down but flying back ? I would seek lodging around Asheville, NC. There are a plethora of posts on here but your best bet for lodging would be www.vrbo.com. Many places may require a week long stay - although w/the current economy, some may be more flexible. There are also several recent posts on here re: the east Coast v. teh west coast that you may find helpful. I would opt for Amelia Island (on the East Coast) which is only about 45 minutes from JAX airport. Many posts on here about Amelia as well & again the weeklong stay may be required.

From Amelia you could also easily visit Savannah & St. Augustine (btw).

Dalonega, Georgia is an interesting town en-route. Also look into the Florida panhandle - Appelachicola (sp?)perhaps.
Ocala National Park is in north-central Florida and not far from Orlando. there's a small town just north of the park that we enjoyed.
