From Louisville, Ky to Centerville, VA ( west of DC)

I am taking my child for medical care in the DC area next week and it seems I have several route options, but I have discovered that when going through mountains, map quest etc is seldom accurate on time. So, I have the option of taking I64 through Lexington to I79 then going directly through the Momongaheia National forest on Hwy 33. Google Earth says this will take me 9 hrs 36 min. A variation of this route is to take I79 up to Bridgeport, bypassing the park, taking Hwy 50 over, but this looks like it could be just as mountainous and windy as the hwy33 option. Or From I64 I can pick up I77 and go completely around the park and avoid a lot of the mountains. Google earth says this will add 40 miles and 1 hr to the trip. Or I can go up through Cincinnati, adding 4 miles to the I77 option, but it looks like most of the route is on why not interstate.
I'm so confused. I want fast over distance because I still have an additional 3 hrs on the road to get to Louisville in the first place. I will be driving this during the day, leaving Louisville at approx 9 am on a weekday. If anyone has experience with these options, please, please let me know.

Any time I return to Virginia from the west I use I-64 into 81, 81 into Woodstock. While living down in Faifax, we continued on 81 into I-66 to Centreville and then the back roads home. freetrip.com shows it as 587 miles, 9:00 hours.

This is exactly what I needed to know Just to clarify...Did you mean you would take I-64 to I-79 to I-68 THEN to I-81. My hotel is in Centerville, so you ar describing just where I am going to.

I-64 to Lexington VA, then I-81 north to Front Royal and east on I-66 to Centreville.\

The I-64, I-79, I-68 and I-70 route through north central WV would be fine if your destination were DC or the MD suburbs, but not so good for Centreville.

Oh I see, go South around instead of north. Thanks so much!

You will pick up I-66 shortly after passing Strasburg. As kayd mentioned, the sign will say Front Royal.

Where is your hotel located in Centreville?

It is right off the interstate. That was pretty easy to find on Google. I love the satellite view; it actually pinpointed the building better than the address did.
