kurieff gave me some great advice last year but I kind of stumbled my way via Big Timber and the Crazies. I was thrilled to find our route took us through the windmill farm at Judith Gap -

We enjoyed a lunch at the Grand Hotel in Big Timber too -

It's probably more scenic to take Hwy 89 and head over Kings Pass through White Sulphur Springs, and then cut over to Harlowtown and then to Billings.

But it's faster and still somewhat scenic to take 200 and then hit hwy 3 through Judith Gap to Billings.

Thanks for the suggestions. How about this route: Great Falls, Jidith Gap, Harlowton, Roundup, Billings?

We aren't in a big rush, and we like scenic landscapes of all kinds.

If I were you, I'd skip Roundup and head south at Lavina. It's a little shorter, and the drive is not scenic from Harlowton into Billings.

Thanks, kureiff. These details are hard to come by and extremely helpful.

HTTY, if you're traveling this way soon, check the road reports. There is a lot of flooding between Great Falls and Billings. The road to Roundup is closed. Also, a portion of Hwy 200 between Missoula and Great Falls closed today. Many of the secondary roads are closed because of the flooding.

I'm headed to Missoula and then down the Lochsa on Hwy 12 tomorrow, and we'll be detouring through Helena since we can't get to Missoula on Hwy 200 now.

Thanks for the alert. We will check road conditions along the way. We will make the drive on June 17.

Another concern is the Beartooth Highway into Yellowstone on June 19. At this time it seems 212 is closed between Cooke City and the park.

Thanks for the news flash. I see it opened at 9:00 a.m. on the 10th. That's a big relief.

Thanks for the tips. The drive on 200 was exceedingly scenic and we enjoyed a good lunch at The Montanan in Lincoln.

Today we are in Billings, headed toward Yellowstone in the rain!
