Frisko Freeze in Tacoma?

We are driving to Seattle from Portland. Wondered if Frisko Freeze was worth the detour.

Any other suggestions for a bite along the way would be appreciated.

Thank You!

I don't know about Frisko Freeze. The best places we've found for lunch between Seattle and Portland are in Olympia--Anthony's or nearby Budd Bay Cafe.

I should add that I've never heard of Frisko Freeze and if it were a not-to-be-missed place, somebody would have said so by now.

Frisko Freeze is a side of the road burger joint locally famous to Tacoma.

Taken from an article in "The Stranger", and alternative newspaper out of Seattle (http://thestranger.com/2000-08-31/chow.html):

In order to receive a free ice-cream cone for FF's grand opening in the 1950s, several Tacoma youths cut out of first grade and walked two miles, only to wait in line behind a bunch of college kids who kept changing their outfits and getting back in line for more. Sister Alma caught the first-graders, sticky-handed, sneaking back an hour late, and showed them how a ruler ain't just for measuring.

If you are looking for a fun little burger joint with flair, it might be right for you. Definately not like the fancy restaurants lovingheart was suggesting.

Another possibility for a good lunch is Fall Terrace in Tumwater--just south of Olympia. It's easy off and easy on.

There are plenty of joints in Seattle that are a lot better known than Frisko Freeze: Dick's Drive-in, for instance.

Anybody driving from very far away who makes a destination of the "Frisko Freeze" will laugh so hard at themselves on approach that they may lose their appetite.

Is that little box on the side of the road still owned by a man named Perry Smith or his family?
