Frisco area next week-end?
We are thinking of a last minute package (flight and hotel)deal for 4 days in the area. We are interested in doing some hiking and my husband would like to trout fish. However, if it is already totally winter-like, we aren't interested as our purpose for the trip is to do some outdoor activities. Are all the leaves down now? I know you can't forecast the weather, but is the 3rd week-end in Oct. typically more winter like than fall-like? If you can help out, I'd appreciate it.

My bet is that someone is going to tell you that those from San Francisco hate to hear it called Frisco :)
I heard that the weather is lovely and still sort of warm .. try doing a text search, see what is going on this week on the boards regarding San Francisco :) Good luck, have a good time~ |
It's cool today and more cool predicted for tomorrow. Snow in the mountains last night, so everyone's excited about some ski areas opening this weekend. The Fall colors peaked last weekend, I think. So, if you really would be disappointed by wintry weather, don't gamble on it. Otherwise, it's a beautiful time of year. (Of course, it's always beautiful in Colorado!)

Julies, Scarlett is correct.... not "Frisco" please. It is San Francisco, or SF or to the locals in the Bay Area "the city".
Just thought I would back up Scarlett's thoughts so when you arrive you do not get a big snarl from a local. |
Could it be that Jules correctly called it Frisco Colorado?
|
Suzie, that would sure explain the hiking and trout fishing.
Never heard of Frisco, Colorado, but that would explain a lot. |
LoveItaly, Frisco is great little town about 10 miles from Breckenridge. And the locals don't snarl when you call it Frisco!
|
If you are talking about Colorado, it may already have snowed too much for your trip. I haven't been to the mountains this week, but the weather in Denver has been in the 50's & 60's, so it most likely snowed more in the mountains.
|
Hi Julies, I live in Summit County. While it snowed (about 5 inches yesterday and a little more expected tonight) I think you can enjoy the activities you are interested in. The snow around Frisco and Dillon is disappearing fast, the rivers are flowing, and you can hike and fly fish.
The fall leaves are mostly down here, but last weekend I drove down to Denver and found them aburst at about 7,000 feet. I bet you will see them between Denver and Idaho Springs. It is cold (will get to 49 today) but the weekend should be warmer and without snow. |
Ha ha - this is too funny. When I read the title, I thought "Julies had BETTER be talking about Colorado, or he or she is going to get an earfull."
|
Never even thought this would engender this amount of discussion since I posted it under the Colorado area branch.
|
julies, specifying a topic just allows your post to come up in a search for (in this case) Colorado. It still appears on the general US board, with no indication of whatever topic you assigned to it.
|
I was on the US board and thought it was Frisco, TX. And thought who the heck would go there for a weekend?!
|
Pepper131--I was thinking Frisco, TX, also :-)
|
Since I read through all posts and don't check them out state by state, like others my initial reaction from the title was the bad nickname for San Francisco. But I'm curious how anybody who read the actual post would still think so -- hiking and trout fishing? Already totally winterlike? Are all the leaves down? All of these should have signaled that it wasn't San Francisco the poster was talking about!
|
Way to be positive and nice, Patrick. Perhaps a little understanding for people who make an honest mistake would be more appropriate.
|
I was thinking the same thing as J Correa, lol!
|
Well Patrick, I did think hiking and trout fishing for a trip to San Francisco seemed strange but since you have been to San Francisco am sure you know anything is possible.
Thought maybe hiking up Mt. Tam, Muir Woods (in Marin County) and trout fishing - what do I know - the SF Bay has a lot of weird stuff in it so thought maybe that were starting to throw in trout too. LOL. |
Oh Gee, Shucks and I am sorry #-O
Here I was trying to be helpful ~ SF was the only Frisco I knew of..there is no actual Colorado board and I figured that one can fish and hike in SF also, at least, I used to hike there. Sorry, julies :) |
Julie:
The leaves have fallen for the most part and its been pretty cold lately, BUT you can still fish, the hiking is still good (be careful though- took a digger last week over a tree root covered by leaves!) AND most of the restaurants and shops are having off season specials. Mornings are cold - frost on the ground, snow in the higher peaks but it warms up to fleece/sweater/lt jacket weather in the afternoon. That said - it could snow a foot tomorrow - but most likely, more of the same. |
Julies,
I knew exactly which Frisco you were talking about because you correctly posted this under the subject of Colorado. A lot of people seem to only look at the most recent posts section and not under the individual states. I do both and but I saw your post when I looked for Colorado topics. Anyways, CoSkier and Grasshopper can better answer what the weather is like in Summit county. They had posted that the leaves in the mountains had turned a couple of weeks ago and most are probably on the ground now. We have had some really spectacular colors in Denver but I just noticed today that some of the trees I have been admiring are almost bare in just a matter of days. You might catch some glimpses but most will probably be gone. Weather is unpredictable because it can be cold one day and then in the 70's. It won't entirely feel like winter but definitly be prepared for colder weather if you come out. |
Well, the question about the leaves did confuse me and I did think that the drive to trout-fishing would be a long one... :O
|
It amazes me how many people jumped in on this post to try to correct something that they themselves misunderstood. Even worse (besides the activities that are not found in San Francisco) no one apparently read the posts below Julies original question. Maureen was the second person to respond and clearly stated that it was Colorado that was being discussed.
Interesting how people skip over the info but are quick to correct others. |
lenleigh - For someone who is visiting the forums through the entire US page and not restricting to Colorado, how would anyone know that MaureenB had the right destination and Scarlett was wrong?
In any event, why chastise? julies got answers to her questions from a few people and has probably learned without a doubt that choosing a state as a search function definitely does not mean that everyone will know you meant that state. :) |
I think it's safe to assume that a lot of people are posting "on the fly" -- kids, work, whatever -- and don't have time to read each and every post. I know I'm one of the culprits!
